The GEL-Nimbus 28 is basically the most cushioned, cloud like ride in the ASICS lineup right now, this thing is built for comfort over everything. Specs: FF BLAST PLUS ECO midsole for that soft, bouncy landing, engineered mesh upper that breathes we...

ASICS GT-2000 14 is A Stability Shoe That Doesn't Feel Like One

If you're an overpronator or need extra support on your runs but don't want a heavy, stiff shoe weighing you down, the GT-2000 14 breaks the usual stability shoe mold.

Instead of relying on a medial post or dual density foam that typically adds bulk, ASICS builds stability into the shoe's geometry itself, keeping it light (just 273g) while still guiding your stride through the 3D Guidance System and a forefoot pod ...

What makes this 14th generation stand out is the midsole upgrade to FF Blast Max, a livelier, more responsive foam than previous versions, paired with Rearfoot PureGEL to soften impact on landing.

The result is a 36.5mm heel stack that still feels plush without going flat or lifeless like older stability models.

The 8mm drop stays true to the classic GT-2000 feel, so switching over from a neutral trainer won't feel like a big adjustment.

This shoe is a great fit if you're looking for one reliable pair for everything from easy runs to long runs, especially if you have a midfoot/forefoot strike and narrower feet.

Worth noting: if you're a heavier runner or want maximum cushioning underfoot, you might want to look elsewhere, the toebox also runs a bit narrow and tapered, so it's worth trying on first.

But if what you need is stability without sacrificing everyday comfort, the GT-2000 14 remains one of the most dependable options in its class. 👟

ASICS Magic Speed 5: A Race Ready Trainer That Doesn't Ask You to Compromise

If you're chasing faster tempo days or lining up for a race without spending super shoe money, the Magic Speed 5 is worth a serious look.

ASICS brought the Magic Speed back to its roots with this generation, delivering a lightweight, carbon plated speed trainer built for fast workouts and short races.

The engineered mesh upper is made from 75% recycled materials while trimming 13% in weight from the previous version, so it feels dialed in and race ready without sacrificing sustainability.

RunRepeat + 2 The real transformation happened underfoot. ASICS layered its lightest, bounciest FF Leap foam on top of a firmer, more stable FF Blast+ base, sitting on a Y cut carbon plate, a setup that pushes you naturally toward a midfoot to toe ru...

The stack height was trimmed significantly, down to 37.5mm in the heel (from 43.5mm in the previous version), making it compliant with World Athletics standards while shedding real weight, the shoe now sits just over 190 grams for a men's US 9.

Reviewers note it lands close to the ideal supertrainer weight, just a tenth of an ounce heavier than the Vaporfly 3.

Canadian Running Magazine + 4 This shoe hits a sweet spot for beginners and value hunters who want a carbon plated trainer for tempo days and occasional racing, without paying premium super shoe prices, as well as more experienced runners using it as...

One thing worth flagging before you buy,  it tends to run small, so trying it on or sizing up slightly is a smart move.

If you want one shoe that bridges hard training days and race day itself, the Magic Speed 5 delivers that versatility at a more accessible price point. ⚡

ASICS Sonicblast - The Plated Super Trainer for Fast, Fresh Legged Miles

If you love the cushioned "Blast" family feel but want something with more snap for faster efforts, the Sonicblast fills that exact gap.

It slots in above the Novablast in ASICS' lineup, sharing similar geometry but with a more refined build, and stands out as the only model in the Blast family featuring a plate, with the tallest stack height of them all.

Underfoot you get a brand new FF Turbo Squared foam on top, sitting above a layer of FF Blast Max, the same foam found in the Novablast 5, sandwiched around ASICS' Astroplate, a Pebax plate for added snap.

Stack height comes in at 46mm in the heel and 38mm in the forefoot, giving you a serious dose of protective cushioning.

Believe in the Run + 3 What makes the ride distinct is how the plate is tuned.

The nylon plate isn't quite as aggressive or stiff as a carbon plated race shoe, which makes it well suited for fast training efforts rather than all-out racing, and its stiffness combined with a wider base gives the Sonicblast a relatively stable ri...

One reviewer summed it up well: it's a “controlled Blast”, not wild, not overly squishy, not unstable, just a well contained, firmer take on the existing Blast DNA, positioning it between the Superblast and Magic Speed in ASICS' current lineup.

Running Warehouse + 3 This shoe is a strong pick for runners looking for a plated super trainer without paying over $200, and marathoners wanting a shoe perfect for long runs and extended intervals while keeping their legs fresh.

It's also a great option if you've found the Magic Speed a bit underwhelming and want something that fully delivers on that faster daily trainer promise.

Just keep in mind, per multiple testers, the ride runs firmer than you'd expect for such a tall stack, it doesn't feel as fast/propulsive as a dedicated speed trainer, nor as soft and bouncy as a typical ASICS daily trainer, so it's worth test runnin...

ASICS Novablast 5 - The Bouncy, Do Anything Daily Trainer

If you want a daily trainer that makes easy runs feel genuinely fun instead of a chore, the Novablast 5 is one of the most talked about options in its price bracket.

The big story this generation is the switch to full length FlyteFoam Blast Max midsole foam, with an 8mm heel drop, replacing the older FF Blast+ Eco.

This version is softer and a little bouncier than previous Novablast generations, and testers found it completely changes the shoe's ride compared to earlier models.

Weight sits around 255g/9oz for a men's US 9, keeping it light despite the generous cushioning.

Solereview + 3 What makes it stand out is just how much foam you're getting for the price.

The realm of maximalist running shoes typically begins at 40mm in the heel, and the Novablast 5 joins that select group with stack heights of 41.5mm at the heel and 33.5mm at the forefoot, tall numbers for what's still positioned as a lightweight dai...

ASICS also refined the fit this round, the toebox got a slightly more accommodating, toe friendly shape than previous generations, and reviewers noted the upper feels more accommodating overall, especially around the toe box.

The one consistent knock across reviews is grip, traction remains its weakest aspect, performing fine on dry roads but falling short in wet conditions.

RunRepeat + 4 This shoe fits a wide range of runners. it's a genuinely strong pick for beginners thanks to its comfort and cushioning, while also working as a versatile option for runners who want one shoe for both enjoyable daily runs and race train...

That said, if you're brand new to running, it's worth trying on first,  the softer foam combined with the shoe's geometry means some testers hesitate to recommend it as a very first pair, since the plushness comes with a slight stability trade-off.

But once you've got some mileage under your belt, it's hard to find a more comfortable, reliable, and enjoyable everyday trainer, the kind of shoe that tends to stay in rotation long after the review period ends. 🌊

The ASICS Magic Speed 5 brings the series back to its roots.

It’s about 50g lighter than the Magic Speed 4, at roughly 196g in a men’s size 9.

The stack is also lower, at 37.5mm in the heel and 30.5mm in the forefoot, with a 7mm drop.

The result is a more grounded, responsive shoe.

The midsole pairs FF LEAP, ASICS’ lightest and bounciest foam, with a firmer FF BLAST PLUS base.

A full-length carbon TPU plate adds snap at toe-off.

It’s the same technology family as the Metaspeed racers, so it feels lively and propulsive without being harsh.

It’s built for speed, not plushness.

The lower stack gives better ground feel and control, and the fully rubberized ASICSGRIP outsole holds up on different road surfaces.

That also means it feels firmer than a daily trainer, so it’s best kept for intervals, tempo runs, and 5K to 10K races.

If you’re curious about carbon-plated shoes but a full racer feels like too much, this is a pretty gentle way in.

Plenty of runners say that once they have one dedicated speed day shoe in the rotation, those faster sessions start to feel a lot more fun.

For me, it’s the pair I reach for when I want the workout to feel easier than it looks.

Asics Trail Run

Bang Nupie profile picture
The ASICS Trabuco 14 runs on FF BLAST MAX foam with a 35mm/27mm stack (8mm drop), no more Gel unit in the heel, paired with an ASICSGRIP outsole and 4mm lugs for solid wet/muddy grip.

It weighs around 10.43 oz per shoe (US M10.5), has a reworked breathable mesh upper with a wraparound midfoot fit, and comes in a GTX waterproof version too.

It's best for runners who want a stable, responsive trail hybrid - not a hardcore technical shoe - great for packed trails, gravel, and long runs or ultras, but less ideal on mud, wet rock, or steep grass.

Also a solid pick for anyone upgrading from older Trabucos who wants more cushion, though it runs firmer than the softer Trabuco 13.

Bang Nupie profile picture
The ASICS Trabuco Max 5 sits at the max-cushion end of the trail lineup, with a 38.5mm heel / 33.5mm forefoot stack (men's) on FF BLAST PLUS foam and a 5mm drop.

The ASICSGRIP outsole uses shallower 3.5-4mm lugs, so it's got great grip on gravel, forest roads, and packed dirt, but isn't built for gnarly technical terrain.

GUIDESOLE tech gives it a rocker style roll through stride, and the jacquard mesh upper now has water-repellent fibers for drainage.

Weight is around 10.6 oz per shoe, and it's roughly 13g lighter than the previous version.

The ride itself is firm and grounded rather than plush, despite ASICS marketing it as "cloud-like," most reviewers find it dense and protective rather than soft/bouncy.

It suits runners doing high-mileage training or long, non-technical trail runs, forest paths, gravel, hard-packed trails, road to trail, where the max cushioning shields the legs over distance.

It's not the pick for rocky, root heavy, or steep technical terrain, since the high stack and firm platform make ground feel and agility weaker there; for that, the standard Trabuco 14 is the better match.

The Fuji Lite 7 keeps a 32/28mm stack (4mm drop) on FF BLAST PLUS foam with ASICSGRIP rubber and 4mm lugs, weighing a claimed 241g (about 11g lighter than the Fuji Lite 6), with a notably improved, better-fitting upper this generation.

No rock plate, so ground feel is close and natural.

It suits lightweight, agile runners who want a fast daily trainer or race shoe for moderate to technical trails, half-marathon distance or under, great for proprioception and connected trail feel, less ideal for very rocky, jagged, long distance terr...
FUJI LITE 7 | Trail Running Shoe

Bang Nupie profile picture
This one's the most race focused of the lineup so far.

It comes with a full length PEBAX plate that pushes forward momentum, plus a dual layer FF BLAST PLUS setup to keep it light but still responsive.

On the upper side, the woven construction is minimal on layers but still protects against rock/root abrasion, the design was basically sacrificed to chase the lowest weight possible.

✅ Best for runners who are already confident in their pace and footing, tackling non technical trail terrain but wanting to go fast.

This one is basically the Metaspeed (carbon plate marathon shoe) with a trail outsole bolted on.

It runs a full length carbon plate sandwiched between FF TURBO and FF BLAST+, the same combo ASICS uses in its top tier road racers.

The MOTIONWRAP TR upper is as lightweight as the original Metaspeed's, but the midfoot is reinforced specifically for extra stability on trail.

It also has the highest stack height in the lineup at 44mm.

✅ Best for experienced runners looking to go fast in trail races on non-technical terrain

ASICS GEL-Lyte III

This is the origin of the current ASICS retro trend.

Released in 1990, designed by Shigeyuki Mitsui.

This used to be the "it shoe" among old school sneakerheads, and to this day it's still considered one of ASICS' most important products.

✅ Split tongue design, a signature feature no other model has
✅ GEL cushioning in the midsole for shock absorption
✅ Suede + mesh upper, with the iconic Tiger Stripes

Worth collecting, because this is basically the "root" of all ASICS retro.

✅ FLUIDRIDE midsole, lightweight for all-day wear
✅ Mesh + suede + synthetic leather upper
