We live near a mountain lake and often take our paddle boards out. This is the gear we use on the paddle boards and on shore before/during/after our adventures. We do regularly pack snacks along for a full morning on and near the water.
The whole family has these for camping and yard shenanigans in a variety of colors. They are a go-to for paddle boarding too – they float!
Joybee Slides
I have these in the green/gray color. They're great for camping, paddle boarding, and simply wearing around town. I find them to be comfortable, easy to adjust, and without “hot spots”. Also, they float! Just in case you drop them off the paddle boar...
Hiking Sandals
I use a PFG Columbia shirt like this one for layering when I'm on the water – it does a great job of offering sun protection without feeling hot. It is also nice to have as a layer when the wind picks up.
Women's PFG Wild Cast Long Sleeve Shirt
A perfect, casual layer for sunny days, both on the water and on land. I use this hooded shirt while camping and paddle boarding…and mowing the lawn. It takes a lot of abuse from being outside and 98% of the time the dirt easily washes out.
Women's Solarfoil Hoodie
The long/wide size of this paddle board provides stability when you add a child (or dog!). There is a lot of room for wiggling around and if you bonus rider gets too wiggly you can keep control of the board and balance.
*Disclosure: I do not have this exact paddle board, the one I have is no longer available, but this was the one I was eyeballing before I found my current paddle board for sale as a used board*
Body Glove Paddle Board
We have this exact board and we're two years into using it each summer. It is great for sharing with a child, letting us keep control of the balance with the wiggles.
MyBoat Paddle Board 11.6'
This is my go-to life jacket and it is rated for USCG Classification Type III, which means it meets the requirements of the river permits. It's comfortable and I have zero issues with the fit, even after hours of continued wear.
Astral V-Eight 4.0 PFD
We have two of these jackets, one in blue and one in pink. We are two seasons into using them and regularly share them with friends' kids – more often than not they forget to take them off when they get to shore. To me this means the fit is spot on.
This is a toddler/preschooler life jacket for ~30-50lbs. It does have the between-the-legs strap to keep it secure but it does not have the headrest that PFDs for younger kids need.
Body Glove Child's Neoprene PFD Life Jacket
We have an older version of this PFD (ours is a darker blue) and it has been in use for years. The clasps and seams have been holding up well and it fits comforably. There is a wide range of adjustability and we often share it with friends.
NRS Vapor PFD
Yes, you can take photos THROUGH the plastic of this phone bag!
As long as you keep the exterior dry and smudge free you can take photos while your phone is safe. I can even tap around my screen from outside the pouch.
Nite Ize RunOff Waterproof Phone Pouch
Genuinely worth every penny and has directly impacted how many times we get out on the water. It is not necessarily faster than hand pumping but you do get to set it and forget it (for a bit) which gives you time to pack up or add sunscreen or…all th...
We've only had this pump for one year and I cannot believe I didn't own it sooner. HIGHLY recommend getting this pump!
OutdoorMaster High Pressure SUP Air Pump
This bag is likely more than you need for a day-venture onto the water but I like that it is versatile. We usually pack it with snacks, sand toys, and drinks. All of those things can get wet but I'd rather have dry food…and if I tip over I want all o...
ALPS Mountaineering Torrent Waterproof Backpack
There are technically “stadium chairs” but I use them for paddle boarding. They serve a few purposes – a designated place for the kid to sit, a place for me to sit on the sandy shore, and sometimes I even use them as my own seat. They are versatile, ...
ALPS Mountaineering Weekender Camp Seat
We have a slew of Crocs for our daughter and have them stashed in the camper, camping gear, and car. I'll admit a few are well loved hand-me-downs but we have purchased new and would recommend them. They're great for around camp, hopping in/out of th...
Kids Shoes Sale - Discounted Kids Shoes, Clogs, & Sandals
We have two of these shirts and use them on repeat all summer! They do a great job of holding up to the 4-year-old's rough use and about 98% of the grass/mud stains come out without any effort. The thumb holes are also a great hit.
You can definitely size down – it's a larger, looser shirt.
Rash Guard / Sun Shirt - Youth
The sleeves are long on this shirt but they are really easy to roll up if needed. The thumb holes are a hit and the hood fits well over sun hats. We use this shirt all summer and this is the beginning of our second summer using the same shirt. You ca...
