the best dark academia books I've read - emphasis on dark.
This was my first foray into fantasy and boy was it a good one. It is dark with mildly heavy world building and a dark academia undertone.
Ninth House (Alex Stern, #1) by Leigh Bardugo
While I loved ninth house hellbent really secured this as an amazing trilogy even though book 3 isn’t out yet. Idk I’m just obsessed and you should trust me
Hell Bent (Alex Stern, #2) by Leigh Bardugo
I’m gonna be that b*tch but it was an incredible read and ultimately the reason I ever bothered to read ninth house or if we were villains
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
I love a group of pretentious students being weird, slightly incestuous and homoerotic with an undertone of claustrophobia
If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio
Another group of overwhelming people stuck together in a tense environment.
The Atlas Six (The Atlas, #1) by Olivie Blake
Book two is my favorite of the trilogy for sure. This is when the characters unravel and boy do I love an unraveling.
The Atlas Paradox (The Atlas, #2) by Olivie Blake
While this is definitely my least favorite of the trilogy - you’d be remiss not to read all three. At the very least you’ll enjoy Blake’s beautiful writing throughout.
The Atlas Complex (The Atlas, #3) by Olivie Blake
Applauding. Confused a little. Fantastic read.
The Will of the Many (Hierarchy, #1) by James Islington
I don’t read too many young adult books, but this cover really pulled me in and it did not disappoint. So beautifully written and profoundly sad.
Don't Let the Forest In by C.G. Drews
Second installment in the Hierarchy trilogy. Obviously fucking incredible. A feat in storytelling. Devastatingly dark and sad.
The Strength of the Few (Hierarchy, #2) by James Islington
