As per the rest of Alaska, Juneau is a great spot to go whale watching. Humpback whales reside here during the summer and you can also spot Orcas occasionally as they pass through the area.

Take a helicopter up onto the glacier itself and take a guided walk. We've done glacier walks in Iceland and Canada and loved getting up close so we'd really recommend something like this.

Take a trip down an old mine and enjoy panning for gold. Our kids loved panning for gold when we've done this on previous trips.

Another helicopter option is to take a ride up into the mountains and the snow to go dogsledding. You set down up on the snow irself before heading off to meet the dogs. This looks incredible!

This is an in between option which gets you closer to the glacier, without actually stepping foot on it. You get to canoe up much closer to get a better feel for the vast face of the glacier.

Another popular option across Alaska is fishing. Book a trip with a tour operator to go salmon or crab fishing. You often also get to then cook and eat your catch.

Ride a zipline through the forest and take in the beautiful scenery. We love ziplining but the kids didn't meet the minimum requirements here so make sure to check these.

Ride the tram from the city centre up into the mountains and enjoy beautiful views back across the mountains. This is one of the top things to do while in Juneau.
