🎬 Movies with Shocking Twists I Never Saw Coming
These unforgettable films had jaw-dropping plot twists, clever reveals, and endings I was still thinking about long after the credits rolled.
My son is into psychological thrillers and he's now old enough to watch The Sixth Sense, but young enough that he doesn't know the twist. Eeeeeeee
The Sixth Sense
The first rule of Fight Club is that we don't give any spoilers about the crazy twist in Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club…
Fight Club
I think I had to watch The Prestige a couple times before I fully grasped the multiple layers of the twist. Or twists, I should say.
The Prestige
You can actually watch Memento for free on several platforms now. A friend in college insisted I watch it and refused to tell me ANYTHING about the plot because it's so mind-bending. I still mull the twist.
Memento (2000)
Ocean's 11 was so much fun. I still remember the shock watching it in the theater when all the plot twists are revealed.
Ocean's Eleven
I'm not a fan of horror in general, but The Others has a twist that's so, so satisfying that I make an exception.
The Others | AMC+
A witty whodunit that constantly subverts your expectations and zigs when you think it will zag. Benoit Blanc is my favorite modern day detective.
Knives Out
A romantic comedy with several delightful surprises. Like Groundhog Day with more twists and turns.
Palm Springs
At first, it seems like a pretty straightforward heist flick, but it has some really clever reveals along the way.
Now You See Me (2013)
I know that “plot twist” isn't the first thing that comes to mind with The Lego Movie, but the reality reveal was surprisingly clever and heart-touching.
The Lego Movie
This fun whodunnit kind of flew under the radar, but it was such a quirky, twisty, funny mystery. I want more people to find it!
See How They Run
Stardust was a clever romantic fantasy. It's so sweet, and it has some lovely twists in the journey.
Stardust
I debated whether to include The Truman Show because the whole movie is kind of a twist, but I love the heartwarming, heartwrenching ending and the whole journey. Hands down, my favorite Jim Carrey role.
The Truman Show
📚 My Favorite Books with Jaw-Dropping Endings
From psychological thrillers to mind-bending mysteries, these books deliver unforgettable twists that left me questioning everything I thought I knew.
A witty mystery told through emails and texts. Just when I thought I had it figured out, everything got flipped upside down.
The Appeal
Of course the Queen of Mystery would give us the mother of all cozy murder twists.
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
A modern psychological thriller with a memorable reveal. This was one that made me want to reread it immediately to see which hints I'd missed along the way.
The Silent Patient
Gothic suspense with multiple surprising turns. It's one of my all-time favs.
Rebecca
I debated whether to put the book or movie on this list, but the structure of the book makes the reveal so powerful. It's literally like everything goes topsy-turvy midway through, and you have to completely reorient yourself knowing the twist.
Gone Girl
Even knowing the twist, I still get awestruck by how well Agatha Christie pulled it off in one of her darkest novels.
And Then There Were None
Often compared to Gone Girl, but wholly original. It's an addictive unreliable-narrator thriller.
The Girl on the Train
A love letter to classic mysteries with plenty of twists.
Eight Perfect Murders
I can't pick one of the Cormoran Strike novels for the twistiest, but each delivers that satisfying click where all the disparate clues fit together in a surprising way.
The Cormoran Strike Novels, Books 1–4
I don't know that Jeffery Deaver will ever be able to match the jaw drop twist of his first Lincoln Rhyme novel, but I'm glad that he keeps trying.
The Bone Collector
