All you really need to cross stitch is Aida cloth, embroidery floss (thread), and a needle. But there are a few supplies that make this hobby a little more enjoyable. Here are a few of my favs.
I've tried the cheaper thread to save some money, but it's not worth it. DMC is a good embroidery floss, and it keeps knots and breaks at a minimum--which, when stitching is supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable, that's very important.
