As a former print designer and current product designer I have a *very* high bar for art direction and system design—these are the best I’ve found

Board games
Gorgeous, thoughtful art and design in an accessible but strategically layered game that makes you want to get outside and explore this beautiful country
Parks (Second Edition) | Board Game
One of my all-time favorite games, it’s a crowd-pleasing deck-builder where you have to make deals with your opponents to have a shot at winning
Moonrakers - A deck-building tabletop game
A surprisingly deep system-builder where each turn builds on the choices you made before, resulting in a complex (but accessible) and satisfying endgame
Harvest - Keymaster Games
I have no idea how they designed this incredible mathematical achievement, matched by its gorgeous and unique print design
Turing Machine | Board Game - BoardGameGeek
Gorgeous production design (as usual from IV Studio) and a simple ruleset hide a tricky experience of psychological battles and misdirection
Veiled Fate - IV Studio
Heavy on chance but fun and hilarious for groups
Hot Streak - CMYK Games
Card games
Some of these include tokens but all of them are small, beautiful games you can take anywhere (and many of them are great solo or 2-player)
Incredible game by Dan Cassaro—super accessible but strategically layered, and the art direction is top-notch
Loners - Weast Coast Games
A satisfying puzzler experience that works solo as well as with friends
Time to Panic Board Game - IV Studio
Surprisingly deep lane battler, with fantastic art direction by Weast Coast / Young Jerks. This version directly from Weast Coast includes wooden palm tree tokens, while the retail version sold at Target and others has updated rules.
Desperate Oasis – Weast Coast Studio
Considered by many to be one of the greatest 2-player games ever made, Jaipur is a beautifully-illustrated market trading game that’s competitive enough to be interesting, but chill enough to play with coffee or conversation
Asmodee Jaipur Board Game - New Edition
Probably the most beautifully-illustrated deck of standard cards I’ve ever seen, and from a legendary artist.
Dinosaur Playing Cards by William Stout - Art of Play
Let’s be honest I bought this for the fruit art—full disclosure this is the only one I haven’t played yet but I own it and it’s gorgeous
