Desk Upgrades That Fixed My Neck and Wrists
18
items Twenty years at a desk taught me that the ache is not inevitable, it is just badly arranged furniture. This is the kit that made the difference, roughly in the order I would buy it if I were starting again. Nothing here is decorative. Every item solv...
I resisted paying real money for a mouse for about a decade. Three days in, the wrist ache I had written off as permanent was simply gone. The horizontal scroll wheel alone justifies it if you spend your life in spreadsheets.
MX Master 3s Wireless Mouse - 8K Optical Sensor
Solid aluminium, zero wobble, and it lifts the screen to roughly where your eyes should actually be pointing. I bought two plastic ones first and both sagged within months. This one has not moved in years.
Rain Design 10032 mStand Laptop Stand Silver
It clips to the top of your monitor and lights the desk without throwing a single reflection onto the screen. If you work at night and have been squinting under a ceiling light this whole time, it is a far bigger quality of life change than it has an...
BenQ ScreenBar Halo 2 LED Monitor Light Bar
Quiet, low profile, and it pairs with three devices so switching between laptop, desktop and tablet is one key rather than a reconnection ritual. The backlight turns on when your hands get close, which still delights me more than it should.
Buy MX Keys S Keyboard - Full-Size or Mini
Eight ports, does not cook itself, and it has never once dropped my external monitor in the middle of a call. Every cheap hub I owned before this failed in some new and inventive way, usually during something important.
Anker 8-in-1 USB-C Hub with Ethernet 4K@60Hz
Properly adjustable lumbar support, and it is still comfortable in hour seven. What I love most is the leg rest! I could take cat-naps anytime I want.
HINOMI H2 Pro Premium Ergonomic Office Chair
This is the actual neck fix. It gets the screen to the exact height your eyes want rather than the height a stand decided on, and it frees the desk underneath.
LX Desk Mounted Monitor Arm With Tilt and Rotation
If the MX Master has not solved your wrist, this is the next step. It holds your hand in a handshake position, and it takes about a week to stop feeling strange.
Logitech MX Vertical Ergonomic Wireless Mouse
Short people at standard height desks are in a permanent losing battle with gravity. This ends it, and it costs less than a takeaway.
Kensington SoleMate Foot Rest
One brick charges the laptop, phone and tablet at once. It replaced three separate chargers and about a metre of tangled cable behind my desk.
Ugreen Nexode 100W Charger
Cheap, unexciting, and it stops your wrists bending upward all day. If typing is your job, this is the least you can do about it.
Glorious Padded Keyboard Wrist Rest
It will not fix your posture, it will fix the sight that makes you avoid looking under your own desk. Ten minutes of work, disproportionate payoff.
JOTO Cable Management Sleeve
The cheaper Herman Miller and still a serious chair. If the Steelcase is out of reach, this is where I would go instead of dropping to a mid range brand.
Herman Miller Sayl Chair
Splits into two halves so your shoulders are not rolled forward all day. It takes about two weeks to stop typing badly, then you will not go back.
Freestyle2 Split-Adjustable Keyboard for PC
Lifts the monitor and reclaims the space underneath for the keyboard when you are not using it. Solid wood, and it is the only decorative thing on this list.
Grovemade Desk Shelf
A few pounds and it stops your wrist resting on a hard desk edge for eight hours. The cheapest genuine fix here.
3M Gel Wrist Rest for Keyboards, Soothing Gel
The portable version of the mStand. Folds flat into a laptop bag, so your posture does not fall apart the moment you work somewhere else.
Roost V3 | Roost Laptop Stand
Sticks under the desk and holds the headphones you currently put on the desk. Trivial, and it gives you back a surprising amount of surface.
The Anchor - Under-Desk Headphone Stand Mount
