Swimsuit, mens/womens
Men's swimsuits run me around $50 when not on sale. Washing them w shampoo after chlorine is key to longevity. After you forget a few of them at the gym you get smarter about that. The small ones are easier to dry in your car; mine stay in the trunk ...
This is the exact suit I wear. Square leg bottom is key. Small suit is not for looks its just to feel free doing what I love and gets bonus points for drying quickly in my car.
Tyr Square Leg Swimsuit Men
I've used the longer length jammer swimsuits. Some people prefer them though they are less comfortable for me. I definitely do get the TYR brand and am sure to wash them w shampoo to extend life use. It's so unfortunate to leave them in the shower, s...
Tyr Swimsuits Mens
Pretty much the standard for women's laps, I see these all the time. They are very slimming and sleek in the pool, no fanfare.

Goggles
Single frame goggles are used for lap swim but more typically in open water. The small more traditional goggles are considered high performance. Get the mirrored lenses if you're using them outside in the sun.
It's hard to pick my favorite color goggles- mirrored for outdoor and tinted for gym. Either way I prefer mostly opaque so others don't distract me w chat while I swim.
TYR / Swimming Goggles / Swimming Equipment
Take a look at the many shapes and sizes. Don't be hasty w your choice, this is a major presentation decision youll have to live with.
Open Water Goggles
Study this for high performance outdoor. Some of the good ones run you about same cost as a high performance swimsuit.

I was shocked what big frame goggles did for me; they actually improved my lap times

Swim caps
These are partially for speed profile but more about protection your hair from chlorine. Some are thicker; some are bigger for long hair.
These caps are important for protecting your hair from longer exposure pool chlorine
Swim Cap
These photos don't illustrate the significant difference between latex (cheaper) and silicone (thicker) caps. I use the heavier duty caps and make sure to turn it inside out when I'm done, which prevents mold on the inside.
Silicone Swim Caps
You can print your own swim caps, or add graphics. It's a cute gift idea for that swim boss.
EZ Swim Caps
Earplugs
You do not need sound proofing ear plugs for swim, which can run hundreds of dollars. Mine were a few bucks, w small case & work perfectly.
I can't recommend enough, mandatory earplugs for sound/pressure protection not to mention prevention of swimmers ear. I do not swim without them after realizing what a massive yet easy upgrade.
Swimming Earplugs
If you got some build up in your ear canal, don't ignore it. You can alternate 50/50 mixtures of water w hydrogen peroxide, and water w nail polish remover, which both work well to dislodge waxy buildup (turn head sideways, let sit 5 minutes then dra...
Swimmers Ear in Ear Care
A few other choices include the small carrying case and connected by a string. Again, couple bucks is plenty, this is not a need for decibel rated soundproofing.

Fins
This is a paradigm changing gear item as it changes your feet from minimum impact on forward thrust into major propulsion advantage.
You might be shocked by the functional difference between fins. Longer fins are open water; shorter fins are must for pools. There are boot style as shown, as well as open toe.
Swimming Fins
I'm a big fan of the TYR short fins, heavy. These are slip-in where mine have non adjustable (fitted) straps, sized like shoes.
Tyr Swim Fins
First image is my exact set. Heavy grade, no open toe, fast. On the second (green) image you see the side "triple blades" which are incredible. Third image shows they come in sizes, unlike adjustable heel strap config, found in some other brands.
Tyr Fins For Swimming Training
These are interesting; lighter, w drain holes. The longer they get, more important decision how toe angles down (increases thrust).
Open Water Swim Fins
When we talk about long fins, they are really long. This is not what to use in a pool. All the different fins require conditioning your legs.
SEAC L-30 Freediving & Spearfishing Long Fins
Soft Sponge Gloves and Hard Hand Paddles
Contentious high value training item helps you build upper body. DANGER be wary of using for more thsn 20% of your daily workout for first several months training., as the extra pulling power mixed w flawed catch does lead to shoulder injury.
Webbed catch is a remarkable invention but I must advise this is a dangerous swim tool. Any flaw / stroke imperfection is amplified.
Swimming Aquatic Gloves
They all follow this general flat shape, and made of plastic means it goes back in your back dry (unlike the gloves which can get stinky). Here is the key: the bigger they are, the more they pull, the more conditioning is needed and thus higher prope...

Swim gear carrying bags
Using a grocery bag worked for me until a woman found it was so unsightly, she donated me hers. Whether you beg, borrow or steal yours, make sure it's got room for fins and buoy, is waterproof and has a pocket for earplugs and goggles.
Nice selection of bags made for swim gear, gives you a sense about the size and shape

Pull/tail buoy
Used to groove you in proper swim position/pisture. The idea is teaching you the feel of no drag and perfectly straight body, like a pencil, ongoing.
These come in a surprisingly large variety of shapes and sizes. This was the final item in my training suite; I underestimated the importance of boosting posture for reduced drag.
Pull Buoys For Swimming
Amazing how many buoys and this isn't all of them. Caution when I first used mine it chafed my thighs and the wife thought it was weird and sus.
