The large dune is known as Sleeping Bear Dune, she is the mother to North and South Manitou Islands her cubs.
The sand and the plants are so beautiful and peaceful. Be warned, the climb can be taxing, so bring plenty of water and snacks for energy. There is also a Scenic Drive if that is more to your liking.
