I drive a lot and hate being alone with my thoughts, so I have listened to a LOT of audiobooks!
This was the first audiobook I got when I started commuting and it absolutely blew my mind. It is just so perfectly done.
The Testaments Audiobook - Margaret Attwood
Ok it’s really long, at times it went a bit slow, but the story is brilliant and it was so worth it for the ending.
Great Circle - Maggie Shipstead
This is the definition of dark academia, magical realism, and a mystery to solve on top of it all making it my most re-listened audiobook.
Ninth House - Leigh Bardugo
I’m commuting an hour and a half to work at the moment and these books are what is making that possible. Magical realism meets police procedural meets a love letter to London.
Rivers of London Audiobook - Ben Aaronovitch
Do not watch the trailer, don’t read anything about it, just listen to this. It’s sci fi, it’s very accessible but you will probably enjoy it more if you like science.
Project Hail Mary - Andy Weir
I listened to this because I think it was included as part of my audible subscription, and it was actually quite good!
The Chateau - Avery Bishop
I know there was some controversy around the author of this book and whether this book was exploiting the stories of migrants to the US. That aside it is a genuinely good novel and well narrated.
American Dirt Audiobook | Free with trial
I love 1984, one of my all time favourite books. This is Julia’s story, and I think it is a great complement to the original, expanding hugely on her character.
The Sisterhood - Katherine Bradley
Another one from my early audible days. Not one if you can’t stomach a strong accent in an audiobook, but if you can this book is so so beautiful.
Where the Crawdads Sing - Delia Owen
Another slightly random one but surprisingly good, with a stacked cast of narrators and a decent central mystery. Will it completely blow you away? Probably not. Will it while away your slog of a commute, yes it’ll do nicely.
