
An inner-ring suburb on Rochester's east side, Brighton is bordered by the city of Rochester to the northwest, the town of Irondequoit to the north, the town of Henrietta to the south, and the Genesee River and the town of Chili to the west. Established in 1814, Brighton was named after Brighton, England. It evolved from a farming and brick-making community into an upscale suburban residential area in the 20th century. The town is served by the Brighton Central School District, which includes award-winning academic, music, arts, and athletics programs Brighton offers several parks, including the 64-acre Meridian Centre Park, providing residents with recreational opportunities.
