There were a lot of amazing movies that came out in the 90s and some have aged really well and are enjoyable even as an adult (others, more like old milk). This list are the movies I loved as a 90s kids that held up as an adult.

Family Friendly Films
Live action movies that were made for the entire family, not just kids.
Home Alone and Home Alone 2 follow the misadventures of Kevin McCallister, a boy whose family keeps forgetting him or losing him at the airport. This leads to him becoming involved in stopping the notorious “wet bandits” by constructing a variety of ...
Home Alone (1990) & Home Alone 2 (1992)
When Alan Parrish discovers a board game at a construction, he has no idea its enchanted. After playing it with a friend, he is sucked into a jungle for 25 years until two young orphans find the game and release him. This is a well-adapted movie base...
Jumanji (1995)
Hook imagines Peter Pan if he married Wendy's granddaughter and never went back to Neverland (and in turn, forgets all of it). Peter has turned into a workaholic who is thrust back into the world he left behind when Hook kidnaps his kids.
Starring Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman, and Julia Roberts this is a really good movie with a lot of iconic cinematic moments and a great story.
Hook (1991)
This is an incredible film that follows a contrary young girl who loses her parents in an earthquake and moves to an estate of her distant uncle. There she discovers her deceased aunt's secret garden and goes through a transformation through the rela...
The Secret Garden (1993)
Like The Secret Garden, this was adapted from a story by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It follows the story of Sara, whose father sends her to a girl's boarding school after he is drafted into World War I. She becomes very popular with her classmates but ...
A Little Princess (1995)
Kid-focused Live Action Movies

I have a lot of fond memories of watching this Swedish movie about the endearing Pippi Longstocking. As a young girl, her enthusiasm and imagination was quite inspiring, AND she had a spotted horse.
This is a really fun, pure hearted film.
The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking (1988)
Beethoven follows a lovable St. Bernard who joins the Newton family (much to the father's dismay) after escaping pet thieves as a young puppy. This is a funny, family friendly film.
I resonated with this film too as a child because I enjoyed Beethoven (the musician) and we actually got a beagle who was abandoned by their owners (not stolen but literally dropped in our yard).
Beethoven (1992)
Macaulay Culkin was a household name in the 1990s and starred in several memorable movies including My Girl, Home Alone and this one: Ritchie Rich.
Based on a comic strip, it follows Ritchie Rich, a very wealthy boy who has everything except friends and tries to befriend a local group of kids his age. Things don't go as planned and along the way tragedy strikes as his parents plane disappears. M...
This is a very fun film and is full of heart and imagination.
Richie Rich (1994)
Animated
These are the animated movies I loved as a kid that still hold up after rewatching them as an adult.
The Lion King follows the story of Simba, a young lion destined to be king whose life is turned upside down by his uncle's betrayal and must come to terms with his past as an adult. Inspired by the play Hamlet (and taking some “inspiration” from Kimb...
The Lion King (1994)
A Goofy Movie follows Goofy and his son Max on a road trip across country after Max causes a scene at school trying to impress a girl, Roxanne, who he likes. This is a fantastic cult-hit with great animation, very memorable music (Power Line!) and tr...
A Goofy Movie (1995)
The Rescuers Down Under is a sequel to the original Rescuers and follows Bernard and Bianca as they attempt to rescue Cody, a young boy in Australia who is captured by a poacher.
I watched this movie a ton as a kid and it really holds up. It's also one of those rare instances where a sequel is so much better than the original.
The Rescuers Down Under (1990)
I loved An American Tail and An American Tail: Fieval Goes West as a kid and they hold up fairly well. The first movie follows Fieval Mousekewitze and his family as they escape to America from Russia following anti-semitic attacks. However, Fieval lo...
I did see the third film and its not bad (though not nearly as good as the first two) but cannot speak to the fourth one.
An American Tail (1986) & Fievel Goes West (1991)
All Dogs go to Heaven is still one of my all-time favorite animated movies. It follows Charlie, a popular German Shepherd who co-runs a gambling den and is killed by his business partner. He sneaks out of heaven to get revenge but at what cost?
Don't bother with the sequel--its horrible and doesn't acknowledge continuity.
All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989)
The Land Before Time follows Littlefoot, a young “long-neck” who loses his grandparents following an earthquake and mother to a “sharp tooth” attack. He meets up with other young dinosaurs and together they try to find the “Great Valley," a land of r...
This is a long-running series with several movies and a TV series. The first one is by far the best but some of the sequels aren't too terrible.
The Land Before Time [
I was a huge Don Bluth fan as a kid (and still am!) and I loved this movie for its fun story and catchy music. It follows the story of Edmond, who is transported into the world of his book during a storm and joins up with others in a quest to find Chanticleer a rockin' rooster who fled to the city.
