This portion of Acadia National Park is separate from the main part on Mount Desert Island (MDI). It's beautiful and quite a bit quieter!
Schoodic Peninsula - Acadia
A lot of people have heard about walking to Bar Island at low tide from Bar Harbor, but there’s another island-from-an-island spot in the area. Barred Island Preserve on Deer Isle is a quieter hike with beautiful views. More photos and details here.

Watch for seals from your campsite! This state park is pretty far up the coast. It’s been many years since I camped there as a kid, but I remember well how much I loved seeing seals play in the water right from our campsite.
Cobscook Bay State Park
A really cool spot on the coast with a short walking trail. You have to drive way down a tiny peninsula/island area so it's kind of out of the way, but the area is really cool!

Free and open to the public! This is a great spot for kids - my niece loved it.
