The "Hero Shot" Locations

These spots require specific techniques and tools to get the best results. Here are my favorite coordinates for capturing Bali’s soul.

Arrive exactly at sunrise (around 6:15 AM). The light rays breaking through the palm trees create a magical 'God ray' effect. I recommend using a wide-angle lens to capture the sheer scale of the terraces.

This waterfall is beautiful but very wet. It’s the perfect place to practice 'long exposure' photography. Make sure to bring a small tripod and an ND filter to get that silky water look.

The crowds can be intense, but if you have a telephoto lens, you can take incredible candid shots from a distance without waiting 3 hours in the main line.

Selected for their ability to handle Bali’s bright sun and high-mobility travel style.

The Bali sun is incredibly harsh. Without an ND filter, your videos will look choppy and your waterfall photos will be blown out. This is the #1 accessory in my kit.

I need a tripod that fits inside a scooter trunk (NMAX/XMAX) or a small daypack. A lightweight carbon fiber build is a lifesaver when trekking down to waterfalls in Munduk.

My go-to for vlogging in local markets or while riding on the back of a motorbike. The gimbal is rock-steady, and the sensor handles low-light inside temples beautifully.

If you’re shooting on a phone, a CPL filter is a game-changer. It cuts through the glare on villa pools and ocean waves, making the water look crystal clear and deep blue.

Protection & Maintenance

Bali is humid and dusty. Don’t let the tropical weather ruin your expensive gear.

Every night, I store my camera in an airtight pouch with silica gel. Lens fungus grows fast in Bali's humidity if gear is left in a damp bag.

Sea spray at Uluwatu contains corrosive salt. I make it a habit to wipe down my camera body and front lens element after every beach session.

The heat makes batteries drain faster than usual. Don't miss a Tanah Lot sunset because of a red battery icon. I always carry at least 3 spares.
