Painting supplies

Oil paints, watercolors, acrylics, papers that I recommend. You can find canvases that work for you. Watercolor paper is a bit more particular.

Winsor & Newton are painting classics for a reason. I recently got a set of their tube watercolors, and my first painting has turned out how I wanted.

I bought these for a painting class. Again, these are staples for a reason. They are reliably really good quality paints.

Canson's watercolor paper is also very good. Watercolor is worth investing in good brands.

The quality of paper really does matter with watercolor. It takes a lot to overwork their paper. Their cold press paper holds pretty well.

You can't use this in most art classes, but it is passable for casual artists. I find that the coverage is really good. It's a step up from the really cheap brands at Michael's. Their colors are also pretty consistent from the tube to their dry state...

Fiber Arts

Yarns and threads that I recommend. Each brand has synthetic/acrylics as well as wool and other sustainable yarns. I've used a variety from each, and they have all worked for what I was doing. I don't have crochet hook or knitting needle recommendati...

Rip Joann Fabrics. Gone but never forgotten. Michael's brand of yarn is fine. Affordable. Lot of colors. Comparable to Lion Brand in my opinion. I’m picky about texture and this passes.

Some people like them. Some people don't. I've never had issues, and their yarn is consistently pretty soft. I have texture issues with yarn. They have always been safe for me. They usually have good sales and clearance on their website.

I also dabble in embroidery. I also use this for little details in crochet projects. DMC is pretty standard to use. It is a staple for good reason. Also the sparkly/metallic threads are so cute.

One of my graphic design courses used Wacom tablets. I have a very basic one at home. About $40. It gets the job done when I need it. If you're starting with digital art, it can definitely get you started without being a huge investment.

My first real digital taste of digital art. A lot of options. You can start making works pretty intuitively. If you want to elevate your work, watching YouTube and TikTok tutorials will be your friend.

Drawing

I'm very much a 2D person. I highly recommend these for your drawing needs. Introductory or not, these brands are reliable.

I'm a big fan of their soft pastels. They work like paint. They are super pigmented, so my work is always very vivid. I adapted to working with these pretty quickly.

I've had a set of 50 for a lot of years now. The pencils are pretty soft, so they deposit a lot of pigment when you draw. I've done portrait work to silly cartoon drawings with them. Just be careful if you drop them. The “lead” will break on the insi...

These liners are also a staple for physical drawings. I sometimes use them in my pencil drawings. I really like using these for additional outlines when I do watercolor paintings.
