The holidays are among us. And that means it's time to rave about my favorite small businesses in Chicago. But don't worry, these small businesses are around all year long. :)

Books, Music, and Movies
I love vinyl records. And one of my favorite places to browse and buy is Reckless Records. While I frequent the Belmont location, there are three throughout Chicago and even one in London!
Reckless Records
My husband and I are big horror/metal fans. This is one of the best places in the city for that. It's just one of those really cool shops and I think anyone should check it out.
Bucket O' Blood Books and Records
If you're looking to shop at a solid, comprehensive independent bookstore, the Book Cellar is the place to go. I usually buy my books here year-round and during the holiday season.
The Book Cellar
One of the greatest movie theaters in the world. I am even a member! There are so many cool films to catch here and it's an independent movie theater with a staff that loves movies. Oh, and they are adding a new screen in 2026!
Music Box Theatre
Another independent movie theater with a solid selection of new releases and other programming.
The Logan Theatre
A local favorite known for tens of thousands of used books.
Myopic Books
A solid record store in Andersonville. You can find a variety of new and used vinyl records and CDs.
Rattleback Records
Part niche museum, part shop, part video rental, this is one of the coolest stores in Chicago.
Graveface Chicago
My husband is a professional musician and this is his absolute favorite music store of all time. Plus, the staff is incredible!
Chicago Music Exchange
Home, Health, and Beauty
You can spend hours perusing all sorts of health and beauty products from around the world. This is one of my favorite places to buy holiday presents and they have an online shop, too!
Merz Apothecary
This store is a giant dopamine hit. A beautiful place to choose from hundreds of natural beauty products.
Mojo Spa
I love coming here to find unique, quality gifts. I also love coming here every few weeks for their eye-catching displays.
Foursided
Fun and Unique Shops
Labeled as an “oddity shop,” there is no way one can truly describe the Wooly Mammoth. But let's just say- expect the unexpected. This might be my favorite shop in Chicago.
Woolly Mammoth
A charming, little candy shop that will delight children and adults alike.
Amy's Candy Bar
There are a few locations for this large, comprehensive thrift shop. Proceeds go towards Howard Brown Health, which is a top LGBTQ+ healthcare and social services provider in Chicago.
