Finding high heels that are both stylish and comfortable is genuinely hard — most pairs are one or the other, rarely both. After years of searching, I've finally worked out what actually decides whether a pair of heels survives a full day without wrecking your feet.
What Makes a Heel Comfortable?
Two things matter most:
1. Padding in the sole. A little cushioning under the ball of the foot makes a huge difference, especially if you're standing or walking a lot.
2. Stability at the front. Your foot shouldn't slide around inside the shoe — that slipping is what causes blisters and chafing, not heel height itself.
New to Heels? Start Here:
1. Go for a lower heel height at first. A lower heel is easier to walk in and gives your feet time to adjust.
2. Choose a shoe that holds your foot securely at the back too if you feel unsteady when walking. A heel that sits firmly around the ankle gives you better balance.
