Our first mold was a dollar store disaster. Juice dripping down the freezer shelf, popsicles snapping in half on removal. I went through three molds before landing on ones my 5-year-old can pop out without a meltdown.

Letting them pick their own ingredients was the turning point. Before that, every homemade popsicle sat untouched. Now they argue over whose flavor combo is better, which honestly I'll take over arguing about screen time.

The whole point was getting them to do it themselves. That meant finding kid-safe tools that wouldn't send me into a panic every time a 6-year-old reached for a knife.

Making the pops was the easy part. Getting them to the pool, the park, or grandma's house without arriving with a bag of sticky purple liquid took some trial and error.

Once the novelty wore off around week three, I added a few things to keep it interesting. Sprinkles, molds shaped like rockets, that sort of thing. Cheap tricks that work every time.
