The hallway was the main problem. Too dark and the kids would freeze. Too bright and my wife and I were suddenly wide awake. These hit the sweet spot where everyone can see but nobody's squinting.

Getting to the bathroom was only half the battle. My kids would then flip on the bathroom vanity light, 4 bright bulbs straight to the face. These solved the ‘I can’t see the toilet' problem without the retina burn.

We have 14 stairs between the bedrooms and the main bathroom. Before I added lights, I was convinced someone was going to tumble down them at 2am. It almost happened twice. These fixed a genuine safety problem.

I realized the journey starts the second my kid opens their bedroom door. If there's nothing guiding them immediately, they freeze, get scared, and yell for me. A small light right outside their door changed everything.

Sometimes the outlet isn't where you need it. Or the power goes out at 1am and suddenly your whole night light system is useless. These battery and rechargeable options filled the gaps I didn't know I had.

Once I got the basics covered, I wanted more control over brightness and scheduling. These connect to apps or smart home systems so I can dim them at bedtime and brighten them slightly when I know the kids usually wake up.

For the spots where a plug-in light looked weird or a puck light wasn't enough, I added light strips along baseboards and under cabinets. They create a path that basically says ‘walk this way’ without lighting up the whole house.
