Premium Telescopes & Stargazing Gear Worth Buying
16
items Stargazing is one of the few hobbies where the right gear genuinely changes what you can see — a good telescope shows you Saturn's rings on the first night, not the fiftieth. Every pick here is current for 2026 from the brands astronomers actually bu...

Computerized GoTo Telescopes
Point, align, and the telescope finds 40,000+ objects for you — the fastest path from box to Saturn.
The best all-around first serious telescope — 6 inches of Schmidt-Cassegrain optics on a GoTo fork mount with SkyAlign, which means three bright objects and you're aligned. Saturn's Cassini Division is clearly visible at 150x on a steady night. It's ...
NexStar 6SE Computerized Telescope
The 6SE's bigger sibling — 8 inches of aperture shows genuinely more: spiral structure in bright galaxies, festoons on Jupiter, detail the 6-inch hints at. Same SkyAlign GoTo system, same ease of use, just more light. If you observe from a fixed back...
NexStar 8SE Computerized Telescope
The cheapest way into real GoTo astronomy — a 130mm Newtonian with full SkyAlign on a lightweight mount. It's the scope I recommend to anyone who wants computerized finding without spending four figures. Manage expectations on deep-sky (aperture is a...
NexStar 130SLT Computerized Telescope
Dobsonians: Maximum Aperture Per Dollar
Big mirrors, simple mounts, unbeatable views — the most telescope for the money, full stop.
Ten inches of aperture for under a grand is absurd value — the AD10 resolves globular clusters into individual stars and shows real detail in the Orion Nebula. The included 2-inch accessories (30mm eyepiece, 8x50 finder) are actually good, not the th...
Apertura AD10 Dobsonian 10" Telescope with Accessories
The truss-tube design collapses to half its height for transport — a genuine 10-inch scope that fits in a sedan. The collapsible design also means faster cooldown to ambient temperature, so you're observing sooner. If you drive to dark-sky sites, thi...
Sky-Watcher Flextube 250 10-inch Dobsonian
A 10-inch Dobsonian with StarSense phone-plate technology — your phone plate-solves the sky and walks you to targets with on-screen arrows. It's the perfect bridge: all the aperture of a big Dob with training wheels for finding things. I learned the ...
StarSense Explorer 10" Dobsonian Telescope
Smart Telescopes
App-controlled scopes that photograph deep-sky objects automatically — astrophotography with zero learning curve.
The successor to the legendary S50 (discontinued early 2026) — upgraded 8.3MP sensor, wider field of view, and EQ mode for longer exposures. Set it on the tripod, pick a galaxy in the app, and watch it live-stack into a photo on your phone. It's the ...
Seestar S50 Pro Smart Telescope
ZWO's more affordable smart scope with the same excellent app — smaller aperture than the S50 Pro but the same magical user experience. Perfect if you want to try smart astronomy without the flagship price. The solar filter is included, so eclipse an...
Seestar S30 Pro Smart Telescope
The portability king — it fits in a jacket pocket and does both astrophotography AND daytime telephoto/birding. The dual-camera system (wide + tele) is genuinely clever, and the image quality per dollar is the best in the smart-scope world. I take mi...
DWARF 3 Smart Telescope
The luxury smart scope — a 3.5-inch mirror with Unistellar's enhanced-vision processing that shows nebulae in near-real-time color through the eyepiece. It's the closest thing to looking through the Hubble from your backyard. The automated setup and ...
UNISTELLAR ODYSSEY Smart Telescope
Vaonis's premium smart scope with a larger sensor than the original Vespera — wider fields, finer detail, and that gorgeous French industrial design. The app experience is the most polished in the category. If the Seestar feels too "gadget" and you w...
Vaonis Vespera II Smart Telescope with Dust Cover
Mounts, Eyepieces & Accessories
The upgrades that multiply what your telescope can do — tracking, magnification, and power in the field.
Turns any small telescope into a GoTo setup — Wi-Fi controlled, runs on AA batteries or external power, and it even has an equatorial mode for basic astrophotography. I mounted my 80mm refractor on it and suddenly had a travel GoTo rig. It's the most...
Sky-Watcher AZ-GTi Multi-Purpose Mount & Tripod
Giant astronomy binoculars that show Jupiter's moons and resolve star clusters — a tripod adapter is essential at this magnification. They're the perfect companion to any telescope: wide-field sweeping that a scope can't match. I use mine more than I...
Celestron SkyMaster 25x100 Astronomy Binoculars
The eyepiece upgrade that changes everything — Tele Vue's 68-degree apparent field makes the view feel like looking through a porthole instead of a straw. The 24mm Panoptic is the wide-field workhorse for most scopes. Yes, it's the price of a budget ...
Tele Vue 1.25" Panoptic Eyepiece - 24mm
GoTo mounts eat AA batteries for breakfast — the PowerTank Lithium Pro runs your mount all night with power to spare for dew heaters. The built-in red flashlight preserves your night vision. It's the unsexy purchase that saves every observing session...
Celestron PowerTank Lithium 158.74 Wh Pro Battery
One eyepiece that replaces a whole case — twist the barrel to zoom from 8mm to 24mm and find the perfect magnification for any target. It's the best first eyepiece upgrade for any beginner scope. I keep mine as the "what's the seeing like tonight" te...
