I read this book in class at school and it has stuck in my memory for over…well, for many years!! Beautifully written and gentle, which is at odds with the subject matter.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Another one of those reads that surprised me out of nowhere. I don't even recall how I came to read this book - but I couldn't put it down and have never forgotten it. A touching mix of tragedy, desperation, love and humour.
