I went through four bird baths before I found ones birds would actually land on. The wrong height, wrong depth, wrong texture and they just ignore it. These are the ones that finally had traffic within days.

Still water sat untouched in my yard for weeks. The second I added a small fountain, birds showed up like I'd sent out invitations. Moving water is the single biggest upgrade I made.

Every November my bird bath would freeze solid overnight and the birds would vanish until April. Adding a heater was the thing that turned my yard into a year-round stop. Winter birding is honestly better than summer now.

Dirty water means no birds and potentially sick birds. I ignored cleaning for two weeks once and ended up with a green swamp that smelled terrible. These keep maintenance fast and painless.

The bath alone got me started, but adding a few smart accessories tripled my bird variety. Little things like the right stones or a dripper made species show up that I'd never seen in my yard before.

Placing my bath in the middle of bare lawn was a rookie mistake. Birds want cover nearby so they can escape predators. Once I planted the right things around my water feature, bird traffic exploded.

Once birds started showing up regularly, I realized I had no idea what half of them were. A couple of good identification tools turned casual bird bathing into a full-blown hobby I didn't see coming.
