It’s Nonfiction November, a genre I love but don’t read nearly enough of. These though I have read, and have really enjoyed. Accessible, interesting and eye opening 👁️
So so good as an audiobook. Punchy and incredibly relevant. Books exploring the idea of beauty are rife (on my shelves at least) but loved the idea of exploring what is ‘ugly’ and who decided so.
Bad Taste by Nathalie Olah
Sociologists exploration of black womanhood and body image. Read this a while ago but it’s stayed with me.
Thick And Other Essays by Tressie McMillan Cottom
If you read the Vogue article on boyfriends being embarrassing and want to read a woman’s journey to decentering romantic relationships and finding love elsewhere…look no further.
Love Me! by Marianne Power
I’ve said it once and I’ve said it again, the perfect intro to James Baldwin’s mind and writing style. So many pages were tabbed in such a short book.
I Am Not Your Negro by James Baldwin, Raoul Peck
Actually a current read but early on I was sold. I was not aware of the Lesbian feminist movement and their stance on heterosexuality. Incredibly interesting and again one for my Vogue article readers.
