We usually choose the biggest item first, as visually that has the most impact on the space. The client here wanted a light color sofa with interesting legs, with a floating effect.

They do use the living room for reading together or chatting/entertaining every evening so wanted well cushioned, inviting, comfy accent chairs.

I wanted to bring in a little texture and dimension with the rugs to create interest. Aiming for a light color as the space itself was dark and already had a lot of wood architectural details.

They wanted a solid wood coffee table with a little rustic feel. They use this table daily for books, drinks, etc so it had to be sturdy as well as aesthetically fitting.

Delicate, sculptural lighting helps create that calm, relaxing atmosphere.

Small objects in natural materials make the room feel lived-in rather than styled.
