I read a lot, and I'm very opinonated. So why not get into the 28 books I've read so far this year (including a 4-novel series), and what I thought of each of them.

LOVED
The most empathetic book I've ever read. DAMN, Irish novelists.
The Bee Sting: A Novel
Ambitious and gorgeously written. I didn't want it to end (no small feat for a 600-pager).
Caledonian Road: A Novel
Weird, wonderful, wicked, laugh-out-loud funny.
Brat: A Novel
Written decades ago. SHOCKINGLY MODERN.
Ex-Wife by Ursula Parrott
A book about the barren desserts of the American West and the richly textured characters that populate them.
I Love You but I've Chosen Darkness: A Novel
As good as the heavenly cover. Simultaneously scathing and hopeful.
Long Island Compromise: A Novel
Could NOT put this down.
The God of the Woods: A Novel
Hate LA when I'm there, LOVE LA when I live it through BEE's eyes.
The Shards: A novel
Searing. Underlined every page. SO glad I read this.
Invisible Man
I loved this book so, so much. Monica Ali is incredible.
Love Marriage: A Novel
So weird, and so not for everyone, but I read it at the right time and loved it.
Milk Fed: A Novel
An incredible non-fiction read. Could've been shorter & as impactful, but still fabulous.
The Postcard
Re-read the first & then read the next three for the first time, all in Jan. The classics of our time. SO, so stunning.
Dark and ethically murky. Still not sure how I feel about what happened but I do know this was an absolute PAGE-turner.
Penance: A Novel
Sorry for not loving, but…I didn't love! I did like.
Anna Karenina (Pevear translation)
Was annoyed with her by the end (she doesn't seem to “live her life” at all), but got some good stuff out of it.
Good Energy: The Surprising Connection Between Glucose, Metabolism and Limitless Health
Dragged on a bit at the end, but I LOVED the food writing.
Butter: A Novel of Food and Murder
An important read that reminds you of your own complicity. Can't wait to read Wandering Stars. This is almost, but not quiiiite, in the “LOVED” category.
There There: A novel
One of those books that stays with you LONG after you finish it. I read it in April, I still think about it weekly.
Chain Gang All Stars
Pacy historical fiction you'll fly through. Not as good as The Rose Code, but for fans.
Lilac Girls: A Novel
I reread a few pages of this this lovely little book before I meditate.
