This book is on my TBR list because I’m interested in the concept of someone living forever but being forgotten by the people they meet. Could you imagine? Also, is the immortality worth it? I have questions!
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V. E. Schwab, Paperback
One of my favorite ways to find books is through the movies I watch. Saw this movie years ago and read a scene in the book that was beautifully portrayed by the actor. Also, hearing the author’s inspiration for the book gave me no choice but to add i...
Beloved by Toni Morrison, Paperback
Here’s another book that’s been adapted to screen. Before that, this book had so many amazing recommendations. I’m excited to read this book for myself!
The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende, Paperback
A few people personally told me that Gabriel García Márquez is the “father of magical realism.” Naturally, this made me curious. Definitely excited to read about the origins of this genre.
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez, Paperback
You should know this: I’m obsessed with reading books where the setting is a library. I personally believe a lot of magic happens there! So, naturally I had to add this to my TBR list.
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, Paperback
The circus is the perfect setting for otherworldly activities to happen. Add some magical realism to the mix? Yeah, this is going on the TBR list.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, Paperback
One: another book written by the father of magical realism. Two: the premise for this book is heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. Three: please add this to your TBR list.
Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez, Paperback
A book that’s been adapted to the big screen! I remember watching this movie and thoroughly enjoying it. Definitely curious to see where there are similarities and differences with both the book and movie.
Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman, Paperback
This book illustrates the strength of multi-generational women doing what they can to survive and make it to the next generation. Anything with generational gifts, magical realism, and historical fiction already has me hooked. What about you?
Weyward by Emilia Hart, Paperback
Some readers say this book has the feel of the book Practical Magic. Practical Magic is already on this list. Why not read both?
Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen, Paperback
This book has mystery, fantasy, magical realism, and dark academia. Need I say more? If you enjoyed reading The Night Circus, you can check out this book, too.
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern, Paperback
The plot of this book is quite fantastical and fellow readers have said that it’s worth the read. Curiosity is usually enough for me to add books to my list. This book definitely peaked my interest.
Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt, Paperback
Received a personal recommendation that this book is definitely worth reading. Just wanted to pass the message along and share that recommendation with you. Happy reading!
The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates, Paperback
Sometimes, January can feel like a long month. I’m interested in what ten thousand doors have to do with this concept. Just kidding, the main character’s name is January.
The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow, Paperback
Magical realism meets fantasy, which also meets mystery and time travel. I’m usually down to read a book about time travel. What about you?
The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown, Paperback
Books about bookshops and libraries are a yes for me. The settings themselves can be portals to experience magic in the mundane. So, naturally when I discovered this book and realized it was in my favorite genre, I had to add it to the list.
The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods, Paperback
Navigating love and grief, especially when they weave back and forth into each other is a deeply human experience. Many readers highly recommended this book and I wanted to share this recommendation with you.
The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan, Paperback
These Books Are Definitely Worth Reading
These are books that I’ve read and would highly recommend. Some of these books I’ve read more than once and would be happy for you to experience them, too!
The protagonist has unfinished business and seeing her get another chance to understand herself more was eye-opening. Also, this book definitely illustrates the importance of building and being a part of a community.
The Love of My Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood, Paperback
There’s a scene in this book where the past meets the present. Just that scene alone made this an excellent read. Want to know what scene it is?
The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston, Paperback
This book is LUSH. The writing, the storyline, the character development, the plot development. If this book had 1,000 pages, I would happily keep reading it.
A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams, Paperback
This book jumpstarted and re-ignited my love for books, all at once. It was so good, I read it again after reading it for the first time. This book is definitely one to read at least once in life.
Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison, Paperback
One of my favorite books by Ashley Poston. It’s also tied to a crochet memory which is one of my other favorite hobbies. I was crocheting something similar to what a character wore in the book when I read this book for the first time.
The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston, Paperback
Love can be transformative. This book illustrates that so well. The character development of some the characters was beautiful to witness as I read the book. Also, witnessing the “sunrise” of love along with the “sunset” of love makes one really thin...
Sounds Like Love by Ashley Poston, Paperback
There are so many amazing quotes that stay with you after reading this book. The writing is poetic and there is some powerful imagery. Would definitely recommend immersive reading with this one (add the audiobook to the mix)!
