Looking for some Spring reading? Here are some of my favorites, there's something for all age groups.
I love this book because Superworm is not the only hero in this book! There's a team of insects and animals working together to save the day!
Superworm
Stunningly illustrated, this book is one my my favorites for teaching four seasons.
Tree: A Peek-Through Board Book
Cute story about waiting and being patient for Spring to arrive, I find this book is great for little ones! Lovely word plays and using the senses of smell, see and touch.
When Spring Comes: An Easter And Springtime Book For Kids
Simple Spring language, I use this book to teach verbs to do with outdoor activities, especially when it's raining.
Worm Weather
Beautiful book about gardening, nature and what's in the dirt and what grows up in the garden. I love this book because I can teach kids about insects, plants and animals, with lots to talk about afterwards.
Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt
A book about finding a hidden garden in a bustling city, and watching it grow through the seasons. I use this story for kids who live in the inner city. Mostly they can relate and wish they could find their own garden.
The Curious Garden
I love reading this book to older kids. It has lovely illustrations, with individual seed drawings, with the seeds spreding themsleves across the land. Its a great book to use for projects based on nature.
Miss Maple's Seeds
I sometimes teach in Montessori schools, and this is great for Montessori students and older kids. Montessori believes in real stories, with no fantasy characters. The Dad explains how nature works, as he is gardening with the children.
Busy Spring: Nature Wakes Up
A classic in the Bruce the bear series. Grumpy Bruce doesn't like Spring! I've got quite a few grumpy students who can relate to this book. It's also great for kids with allergies.
Spring Stinks
Part of a series of seasonal books, Is This… Spring? Is a fun take on the season of flowers and allergies.
Is This . . . Spring?
Part of a seasonal series, with minimal illustrations, it's worth getting all four books, because they go togther so well!
Now I See Spring
A timeless classic, great for learning about fruit, counting, days of the week, colors and eating habits, this book covers so many topics.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar|BN Exclusive
Another classic from Eric Carle, in his distinctive style of illustration, this book explores seasons and seeds.
The Tiny Seed
A classic tale of an inch worm and a bird. Will the bird eat the worm?
Inch by Inch
Another classic from Lois Ehlert in her classic minimalist style, a great way to learn colors of the rainbow and flower names too.
