Kalk Bay is best when you have nowhere to be. Here's where I'd start, and where I'd stay too long.

Morning: ease in

Afternoon: no plan

Morning: ease in
A small independent shop where the shelves feel chosen rather than stocked. Come for one book, leave with three.
Kalk Bay Books
A little sister to Chardonnay Deli, minus the vineyards and plus the ocean. Grab whatever cake is in the fridge, find a window seat, and let the waves do the entertaining.
Dalebrook Café
Get there early, before the queue. Choose from the bakery counter and sit somewhere you can watch the street wake up.
Olympia Cafe
Late morning: the harbour
This is where I'd send anyone who thinks they don't like cold water. The first ten seconds are awful, and everything after that feels brilliant.
Dalebrook Tidal Pool, Kalk Bay, South Africa
Ride one stop along the coast with the sea just outside the window, then walk back. It's the most scenic ten minutes of the day
Kalk Bay Station
Afternoon: no plan
Easy to walk past, and worth stepping into. It's small enough to see in one go, so you can look slowly without feeling like you've committed your afternoon.
Kalk Bay Modern
A small, intimate theatre in the middle of the village, which makes it a lovely way to end a slow day. Check what's on before you go, and book ahead if you can.
Kalk Bay Theatre
This is where I'd go when fish and chips on the wall isn't enough. Order the calamari to share, then something fresh from the day's catch, and watch the waves while you eat.
Harbour House Kalk Bay
The kind of stop you make when you have zero plans and a sweet tooth. Order a thick hot chocolate, pick a slice of cheesecake or a brownie, and settle into the quiet. Ask to taste the ice cream before you choose, since it's how you find your flavour....
Honest Chocolate Cafe - Kalk Bay
Lunch or early dinner
This is the quick, no-fuss lunch. Eat with your fingers, keep an eye on the gulls, and save the sit-down meal for Harbour House.
kalky's
Every other stop on this list is salty and seaside. This one is a bright, quirky detour into somewhere that feels more Havana than False Bay. Come for a drink, stay because the room is so much fun to sit in.
Cape to Cuba
Every Kalk Bay day needs a place to end, and this is mine. The train rumbles past, the waves slap the rocks and nobody looks at their watch. One more round is always a good idea.
