Cruises

Holland America. Period.  I am not into the party scene and want something a little more upscale.  Holland is PERFECT.

Holland America is THE BEST cruise line if you don't want the “riff raff” of drunk youth, so many kids at the water parks, etc.  I almost never went on a cruise just because of those type of things.  Thank goodness someone recommended Holland.  I have chosen this particular cruise because it hits some great places in Alaska (GO TO ALASKA, TRUST ME HERE).  I would take a long weekend in Vancouver (starting port) because it is a great city.  This one stops in Ketchikan (wonderful first stop, as this isn't a big city and gives you a taste of quasi real Alaska), then hits Juneau which will give you the Alaska city feel, next is Skagway which is less populated than Ketchikan and absolutely ... You cruise through Glacier Bay and College Fjord which are both breathtaking. I love that they will stop you off in Whittier.  Whittier is so simple, but so mind blowing.  There are all of 250 people that live in this town and they all live in one apt building.  I have been a few times and still blows my mind.  If you take this one, go a block towards the port from the apt building and you will see a reindeer in a backyard fence (think dog in a backyard).  I would totally do this on again!!!!
7-DAY GLACIER DISCOVERY NORTHBOUND

This one is a little longer, but it is worth it!  Again, starting in Vancouver (do a long weekend!).  You stop in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway - I recommend the dog sledding and any of the excursions where you take a helicopter up to a glacier.  Then you head up to Whittier and Seward.  Whittier is the coolest town (only 250 ppl live there and they all live in the same building).  Seward is the starting point of the Iditarod.  Please walk around Seward!  You will see some real Alaska and some lower 48-ness.  They take you up through Ancorage - honestly, be careful in Anc because it isn't the safest city.  But, then you head up through Denali to Fairbanks.  Fairbanks is diverse and one of the more “normal” cities in AK.  The reason I love this one is that as you make your way up to Fairbanks, you are literally looking at sights people only see in post cards the entire way.  Please take some time and head to the Hot Springs that are just north of Fairbanks!

I LOVED this cruise!  This was one of the most relaxed cruises we have been on.  You start out with a few days at sea, traveling the coast.  We took this time to walk around and explore the ship, had some fabulous dinners (Holland has the best dining options IMO), sit on our balcony, marinate in the hot tub…ya know, just not caring about anything on the planet except the destress.  Anyway, we popped off on an excursion in the jungle to zip line in PV, then rode some ATVs around Mazatlan, then we simply sat on the swings at Senor Frogs in Cabo and then did way too much shopping.  A relaxing day at sea after the stops and we were reluctantly back on land.  I chose to post this one because I like the ports and the schedule.  Having a few relaxing days to just veg out before doing all the things, then having a day to recoup after was so nice.  I like the set up and we really enjoyed ourselves.
7-DAY MEXICAN RIVIERA

THIS IS MY DREAM CRUISE.  If I had two months open, I would have my hiney on this ship faster than you running to the toilet after eating bad Mexican food.  First, it stops in the two countries I split my time between (Malta & Turkey).  Yes, I would still go there because I love both places more than words. This one ports in a few major cities (check the excursions because they are phenoms) and also ports in some smaller ones.   Highlights for me are the two days in Cairo, Cruising the Straight of Gibraltar, and the 3 stops in Spain along with 3 in Italy.  But, what puts the icing on the cake is the way they scheduled the days at sea.  The calendar on this one is darn near perfect!

I just couldn't not put in Turkish Airlines.  I have found so many deals on this airline in the past 6mos.  I feel like it is overlooked, but please peruse flights on this airline!  I have found they do more directs than any other airline.  I go from Istanbul to San Fran a few times a year - non stop. It is a beast of a flight, but I don't have to worry about getting lost in CDG anymore.  HA! (yes, that was a totally sarcastic ha!)

I know.  I know.  Kayak…but, I have found some great deals on airfare on Kayak lately.  I am usually a tried and true Delta gal, but I have to tell you that Turkish Airlines has had some GREAT deals lately and they have soooooo many direct flights.  Look around.  I saved just over $800 on flights last time I booked using Kayak.

Malta

I am so lucky to call Malta home.  Most of the things I have done, I just stumbled upon or a friend recommended something.  I need to dig deeper on this to search for all of my Malta experiences.

Of course I am going to promote Malta!  Malta is my home and I will forever sing it's praises :)  If you come, Malta Paradise is a great way to get all of your travel needs met.  Make sure you stay in either Valetta, Sliema, or St. Julians (I live in St Julians and I think it is the best, but for visitation purposes I can recommend all three).  Must do while in Malta is go to Gozo and Camino!  I tell everyone to please take a week to explore the island.  Another thing to note is that prices almost triple in the summer months, so if you want to come in the middle of the summer book early!
