This year, my husband and I have been seriously considering purchasing a house upstate, which means we’ve test-driving towns up and down the Hudson River Valley to see if the vibe is for us. So far we’ve spent weekends Beacon, Hudson, Kingston, Cold ...

Coffee & Bakeries
Walkable from The Kinsley Hotel, dog friendly, and open early in the morning for coffee and tea, and later into the evening for beer, wine, and light bites. We stopped in multiple times over the course of our weekend in Kingston earlier this year and...
Rough Draft Bar & Books
Bartlett House’s charm is surpassed only by the caliber of its food. The all-day bakery and café have an impressive selection of breads and pastries, plus a satisfying menu of American brunch classics. I can attest their eggs Benedict is fantastic c...
Bartlett House
You will not find a better bagel in the Hudson River Valley. Don’t order anything other than a sandwich, served open-face, and you’ll be rewarded with high-piled toppings.

Believe it or not, early morning coffee is not the easiest thing to find in Kingston; but Village Coffee delivers. They open at 7:30a (very early for Kingston) and Fred says the coffee was solid, and I can say the Chai was delicious.
Village Coffee and Goods
Wylde Hudson was a spot that I had saved on Google maps before we visited Hudson, and we end up picking this little town, I know this would quickly become one of my favorite WFH spots when I need a change of scenery.

Eat & Drink
The cozy atmosphere at Stissing House is a dream, especially if you’re visiting in the fall or winter. We try and go anytime we’re in the area and always start with a mug of broth (yes, really, don’t knock it before you try it) and snacks like the go...
Stissing House
A great casual spot with good locally brewed beer, a bottle shop, and menu. On the weekends, they often have another food vendor set up in the backyard at the Kingston Taproom — it’s been a perfect vibe every time we’ve stopped by.
West Kill Supply
You may recognize it from seeing it in Apple TV’s “Severance”, but with appetizers like egg rolls, spare ribs, and butterfly shrimp to classic entrees like chicken chow mein, Singapore chow mei fun, and chow fun, this Kingston spot has been serving u...
Eng's Restaurant
Saint Florian, named for the patron saint of firefighters, is an addition to Hudson's dining scene just this year. Set in a 150-year-old firehouse on Warren Street, this steakhouse offers a fresh take on classic American fare. Chef Robert Finn, with ...

Union Street Brewing Co. in Kingston's Rondout district offers a solid casual vibe with over a dozen beers on tap including a nitro oyster stout and a sea salt and coriander gose, along with local wine and cider. They have a light menu of bar bites l...

This charming little restaurant in Hudson has food feels just as homey as it looks, and excels especially in its daytime menu, which includes dishes like crab and Boursin omelet, black pudding, and gnocchi in broth with peas and salami. Their dinner ...

This wine bar in Great Barrington occupies the restored building of the former Berkshire Community College on Main Street. If you like great wine and a cozy casual atmosphere that feels like you may have stepped into your cool grandmother’s hangout, ...
Half Rats
You could walk by the spot and not ever know what you’re missing out on. The European-leaning menu that ranges from fish and chips to pasta and burgers and is a solid date-night pick in Kingston.

The date night spot of Kinderhook, with mismatched velvet armchairs, wood tones, warm light, and a Southest Asian menu, the Aviary is charming and eclectic and perfect.
The Aviary Kinderhook
Another really great date spot is this Victorian-inspired cocktail bar and lounge. I’m a sucker for interior design that is both inviting and over-the-top. You’ll only find light bites on the menu, so be sure to have dinner before you visit.

Hotels & Lodges
This cozy boutique hotel was a dream when Fred and I stayed for a long anniversary weekend, though I was a little nervous to look at the credit card statement when we returned home.
The Maker Hotel
Scribner’s is a dream in any season, tbh. Great for a cozy snowed in weekend upstate, but even better if you’re into hiking the nearby trails. And the restaurant? Loved everything we had the opportunity to try.
Scribner's Catskill Lodge
Pocketbook Hudson just opened earlier this year in a restored 19th-century pocketbook factory on Washington Street in Hudson and everything about this hotel is a vibe. Every room, every detail, thoughtful, curated and just stunning.
Pocketbook Hudson
This lovely and very dog-friendly hotel is spread across a number of buildings in the stockade district, and is walkable to all the shops and restaurants. We parked the car when we arrived and never needed to take it back out again.
Hotel Kinsley
The Roundhouse in Beacon will make a lot of people’s list, and it’s easy to understand why. The rooms are a little small but cozy, and it’s the hotel restaurant that really demands your attention.
The Roundhouse
If you want a romantic weekend away from the city, Hotel Lilien is your girl. Only ~2 hours from Brooklyn, and the beautiful bedrooms to the cozy lobby and cocktail bar, it’s the perfect spot if you never want to have to leave the hotel grounds,
Hotel Lilien
Seminary Hill is another hotel you technically won’t have to leave all weekend. You can eat, drink, and tour the cidery and grounds surrounding it, and breakfast spreads are made available on weekends
Seminary Hill Orchard & Cidery
This quaint little bed and breakfast is like walking into your grandmother’s home. It’s cozy, homey, and unassuming. What you see is exactly what you get.

If you’re spending a rainy or snowy afternoon in Hudson, I’d encourage you to book a session at Poured Candle Bar where you can make your own candles and have a drink while picking out your scents.
Poured Candle Bar
Katterskill Falls is worth the hype, but if you want to park at the trail head, you’ll need to get their early. Very early. I love that this dog-friendly hike can be as short as a mile or as many as 5+, just be sure to leave your sneakers in the car ...
Kaaterskill Falls Hiking Trail
If you live in New York and have never been to dia:beacon, stop what you’re doing the get on the train. It’s one thing to see art online or in books, but seeing works like those from the likes of Richard Serra in person is legitimately awe-inspiring.
Dia Beacon
Similar to my feelings about dia:beacon are my feelings, love, for Storm King. You can spend the entire day in this massive sculpture garden in New Windsor, just across the river from Beacon. If you visit, pack a lunch, because the only thing I don’t...
Storm King Art Center
Though closed until 2027 for the construction of a new bridge that will connect Breakneck to the Hudson Highlands state park, this is one trail to hit as soon as it reopens. Pack your boots, and be prepared for rock scrambling.
Manitoga was the estate and modernist home of industrial designer Russel Wright (1904–1976), and includes 4+ miles of walking trails that Wright designed. Be sure to keep an eye on their event calendar, as they often also have private experiences, wi...
MANITOGA: Russel Wright Design Center
This can be a long one if you want it to be, but it’s an easy ~17 mile trail that will take you from New Paltz to the Hudson River with tons of access points along the way if you want or need to bail. You’ll also walk through the town of Highland, so...
