As a busy mom of 2 boys, I’m always looking for fun things to do that don’t cost a fortune. These are our go-to spots around Toronto that keep my kids entertained, active, and happy (without breaking the bank).

We love going here on hot days because the kids can run around freely and cool off without me having to plan much. It’s perfect for toddlers and preschoolers, and I usually bring snacks and let them play for a couple of hours.
Woburn Splash Pad
This is one of our go-to parks when the kids need to burn energy. There’s enough space for them to run, climb, and explore without getting bored. I like coming earlier in the day before it gets too crowded.
Playground Park
We went here last weekend and my boys didn’t want to leave. The library is such an underrated activity. My kids love picking out books and playing in the kids’ area, and it’s a calm reset when we need a quieter outing. Plus, it’s completely free.
Toronto Library
Saved me on a rainy day. We’ve gone to a few of these and they’re always a hit. The songs, stories, and little activities keep the kids engaged, and it’s a great way to get out of the house without spending money.
Library Programs
This is my rainy day lifesaver. The kids can move around safely while I sit and relax for a bit. It’s also nice because there are washrooms and food nearby if we need it. This is one of my go-to spots when I need a low-effort outing.
Dino Kingdom
When I want something slower-paced, we go for a nature walk. The kids love looking for sticks, rocks, and little things along the way. It’s simple but keeps them surprisingly entertained.
Nature Walk
These are great when you need an easy, low-cost activity. There are usually toys, space to run, and other kids to play with. It’s a good option especially during colder months.
Heron Park Community Centre
This is one of my favorite free resources. The kids get to play, do activities, and interact with other children, and I like that everything is set up for their age. This is one of my go-to spots when I need something easy and free that keeps my kids...
EarlyON Child and Family Centres
Such a simple activity but my kids love it every time. We bring safe food (like oats) and just enjoy being outside. It’s quick, easy, and gets them excited.
Lynde Shores | CLOCA | Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority
We usually do this when they have extra energy. Even just going around the neighborhood or a nearby park makes a big difference. It’s one of the easiest ways to get them active.
Cycling in Toronto
We try to check out local events when we can. Even small ones can be exciting for kids, and it’s a fun way to switch up our routine without spending much.
Festivals & Events Calendar
This is one of our favorite places to go when the kids need to run around and explore. There’s so much space, a playground, and even a small zoo, which makes it extra exciting for little ones. We can easily spend a few hours here. Sometimes we pack a...
Picnic at High Park
This is such a fun and easy outing with kids. They get to see real animals like cows and chickens up close, and it feels like a little escape from the city. My boys love it every time we go.
