I love a weird novel, and I read a little bit of everything. No genre is off limits. These are some of the books I read last year that I really enjoyed. I will keep adding to this list, so please follow to read my 4+ star reviews!
Happy Reading!
This book is such a good read. It is the first book in the Between Earth and Sky trilogy, an epic fantasy inspired by Pre-Columbian American civilizations. Cannot recommend enough.
Black Sun
I love a weird book. This book is capital W Weird, and I loved it because I never knew where it was going to go. But definitely read the description before you impulsively buy.
Bunny: A Novel
I read this book so fast. I love an academic fantasy. This was an epic trip to Hell. Literally.
Katabasis (Standard Edition): A Novel
This follows a Sri Lankan war photographer trying to figure out who killed him in the afterlife.
The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida
An astronaut romance for the ages. Loved it. Even teared up.
Atmosphere
I warned you that I like a weird book. The protagonist is sexually attracted to planes, and she's manifesting her perfect partner.
Sky Daddy: A Novel
This is about to be a movie starring Ryan Gosling. This is a science-heavy space book, but let me tell you it is soooo good. Cannot wait to see how they adapt it into a film.
This is not a light read, but it is a page turner. It is a dystopian book about a country that falls into fascism.
Prophet Song: A Novel (Booker Prize Winner)
This book surprised me to the last page. Loved the two stories and how they intertwined.
Death of the Author (Deluxe Limited Edition): A Novel
I love reading nature books, and having Robin Waller Kimmer share her knowledge and voice is a gift to us all. She shows us how we can learn so much from the Earth if we pay attention.
Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants
What if you were contacted at Midnight the day before you were to die, letting you know? This book takes place in a world where that is the norm. It follows two teens as they navigate their last day on earth.
They Both Die at the End
The first book in a superhero duology. I have never read a superhero fantasy book before, and I really enjoyed this group of unlikely cruisaders save New York City.
The World We Make
Loved this read. Gay dog walker love triangle? Tell me more.
In Tongues: A Novel
This book is such a good metaphor for how messed up our prison-industrial complex is in America. Without giving too much away, this book is what America would look like if we had Roman Colosseum-style prisoner fights, with lots of historical facts ab...
It was a very good read.
Chain Gang All Stars: A Read with Jenna Pick: A Novel
This book really holds up for being written in the 60s. Unfortunately, the expectations put on women were extreme then, and they are extreme now. How the characters dealt with sexism and the patriarchy as women in the 1940s/50s was quite scandalous f...
