My mom, daughter, aunt, and I went to Scotland this summer.  It was simply amazing.  Here are some of my recommendations/links of things to see and do while you are there.  They are the standard things with a view odds and ends thrown in.

Edinburgh

We started our trip in Edinburgh.  Sadly, were weren't in Edinburgh for 24 hours and I have a need to go back.  There is so much I need to see there!  Next time…

I had been looking at these handbags for well over a year before my trip to Scotland. It was a DREAM to be able to get my own in the tiny shop. Julia was a great help!

Our Airbnb had a view of the castle right out of the front window.  It was a breathtaking sight to see.  I couldn't believe that was our view.

What a fantastic little airport!  We unfortunately did not spend much time here, but it was so quaint and easy to navigate.  I can't wait to visit again and have more time to explore it.

We rode first class from Edinburgh to Inverness on this line.  It was fantastic.  It includes food and drink (we had several cups of wine).  Great scenery as well.

This website is a great place to start researching your trip to Scotland. I have received emails from them for years now!

Inverness

Inverness was the main hub of our trip.  We wanted to experience the highlands and we really did.

My family and I took an AMAZING tour from Inverness to the Isle of Skye.  Rabbie's is the premier tour service.  I can't speak highly enough of the tour, our guide, our vehicle…EVERYTHING.

This pub was right up the street from our Airbnb.  The food was amazing.  I think we ate there 3 or 4 times during our stay.

This was our favorite grocery store to visit during our trip.  We visited several times and enjoyed being able to buy food as well as clothing and other necessities.

This was one of the most amazing castle grounds that we saw on our visit.  The site of the castle on the banks of Loch Ness are simply stunning. The history was fascinating as well.

Isle of Skye

Skye is a must if you are in the highlands.  The scenery is indescribable.  It is so beautiful.

It was so emotional going on this bridge to Skye.  If you are an Outlander fan you know what I mean.

Unfortunately we were on Skye during a foggy day so we did not get the greatest view, but it was magical seeing the bits that we could.

We stopped at this tiny little town during our visit to Skye.  It was TINY, but very quaint and had a beautiful view of the Isle of Skye bridge.

This is the main city on Skye.  It was a rainy day when we were there and it was bustling.  There were so many little shops and pubs to visit and even a great little thrift shop.

It was a rainy, foggy visit to these falls, but that just made them all the more mystical.  Again, another place where there just are no words to describe the beauty of it.

Golspie

Our main purpose in going to Golspie was to see Dunrobin Castle.  This had to be one of the most beautiful castles I have seen to date.

I heard about this castle from a doctor I was going to.  It was a breathtaking castle on the North Sea (it was the farthest north I had ever been!!!) The whole back side of the castle faces the water and is stunning.  They have beautiful gardens and a great falconry show to watch too.  Also, the tea room inside the castle has delicious food (my daughter says the mac and cheese was the best she ever had!!!)

We traveled to Golspie on a ScotRail train.  I highly recommend getting advanced reservations just in case.  The ride north from Inverness was beautiful.
