I have been using North Face down jacket for years in Antarctica. Well worth the money if you're looking to have separate layers.

I love my Helly Hansen jacket. You will need a good waterproof to wear in the zodiacs. There are plenty of good waterproofs out there but these ones are my favourite.

Buff neckwarmers are so handy. Its windy in the South Altantic and I mostly use my buff to keep my hair out of my face while adventuring or to ensure I don't get the dreaded under chin sunburn.

Especially if you go early in the season you are likely to experience a blizzard or two. These goggles are great for protecting your eyes from the harsh light reflected off the snow, the UV rays and driving snow. Well worth it.

I won't be without one of these when working or visiting Antarctica. The amount of people i've see drop their phone into the sea to never be seen again. Just get the lanyard.

I have tried many waterproof packs over the years and this is the best i have ever had. Through storms, seawater and whale spit it has never let me down. Reasonable price compared to some brands too.

Various carabiners are super handy on the boat and for various situations relating to guiding in the Antarctic. Any carabiners will do as they are not used for climbing in this case, mostly for securing things in the boat and to other items. I just t...

Most guides I know will go for these pants. They are fairly cheap compared to others and sometimes Helly Hansen will give discounts to guides. Super hard wearing and I love them.

Most companies will provide boots for their staff but in case you don't want to share boots with others. This is one of the most popular brands. My feet never get cold in these even after zodiac driving for hours. Well worth the money.

I have an amazing pair of light gloves from 66 North and they are amazing for driving. Suprisingly resistant to the cold considering how thin they are and I still have the dexterity I need for driving the zodiac in tough conditions.

Cheap, cheerful and actually waterproof. I always keep two sets of these as their only downfall is if you sweat in them they wont dry out unless you turn them inside out because they are so waterproof. These are great for driving on those stormy days...

I got the rolling duffle with detachable backpack. It was an expensive investment but it has been totally worth it. I haul this bag with me all over the world and when I'm on the ship it presses down to a reasonable size for storage. They also have b...

Some ships require you to dress up for dinner. I also pack a playsuit, which is perfect for dressing up or down depending on the occasion. Bringing items of clothing that can be multipurpose is a must for keeping your packing to a minimum.

I am the paranoid type so i always carry an emergency bivvy with me. In the Falklands and South Georgia this could be the difference of giving you days to be rescued. In the Antarctic this would also increase your chances for some reason if you shoul...

All ships should provide you with a wilderness first aid kit to carry in your bag. If not there are some great little kits out there. Necessary item.

Some companies will keep these on hand on the ship but they are handy to have anyway. I always keep a set in my bag in case I need them. I'm not a person who's very affected by the cold but i know some guides who use these everyday to get through.

I have tried all sorts of GPS including Garmin but actually I found this app has been one of the best for navigation, recording of routes and waypoints and making important notes about landing sites. £35.00 a year. Well worth it.

I love these gloves. They aren't very expensive but they are really waterproof and tough without losing dexterity. Fairly warm and you can always throw a liner underneath.

A good lip balm is essential on an Antarctic adventure. The sun, wind and cold dry out your skin so much and cause blisters or cracks. I prevent that with this product.

I always carry one of these pill organisers with me when I'm on expedition. With everyday over the counter medicines i might need at work. Super handy in the backpack in the city or in the rucksack on an expedition.
