I'm Miami-based and completely obsessed with Japanese food — I've been working my way through the 305's sushi scene for years, from $300 omakase counters to the ramen I get at 11pm in Brickell. These are the spots I actually send to friends when they...

Omakase & Chill: Japanese Spots Worth the Hype
Omakase & Chill: Japanese Spots Worth the Hype
If you're anything like me and obsessed with Japanese food, you're gonna love this list! Whether you're in the mood for a cute sushi date, cozy ramen night, or a boujee omakase experience (hello, chef’s choice 👀), Miami has so many gems to try.
If you know, you know! Ogawa is that lowkey, no frills hidden gem that makes you feel like you just stepped into a cozy Tokyo spot. The vibes are super chill and authentic, and the sushi? Chef’s kiss.
Ogawa Miami
Okay, this place is such a vibe. Shingo is a high end omakase spot that’s perfect for a special night out think intimate, minimalistic, and sooo beautifully curated.
SHINGO
This one’s a total hidden gem, literally. Tucked behind the main Azabu restaurant, The Den is an intimate omakase experience that feels super exclusive and chic. Think: dim lighting, 8 seats only, and a chef serving you course by course like you’re t...
The Den at Azabu Miami Beach
Miami has a Michelin One Star omakase you enter with a passcode.
Hiden
If you want a Japanese spot that feels elevated but still rooted in tradition this is it.
Hiyakawa Miami
Karyu Miami is a must if you love elevated Japanese dining. They’re originally from Ginza, and you can feel that refined, high-end attention to detail in everything from the service to the presentation. I tried their Wagyu experience, and it was genu...
Karyu
The white whale of Miami omakase — tiny counter on Brickell Key, Michelin-starred, and you book weeks out. One seating a night and it's a whole three-hour experience. Save it for an anniversary, not a Tuesday.
NAOE
The move for a group dinner or a birthday. Robata grill, riverfront terrace, and the black cod is non-negotiable. Loud and buzzy rather than intimate — come for the energy, not a quiet date.
Zuma Miami
Finally, some ramen on this list. Tiny Brickell spot, cash-heavy, and the tonkotsu broth is the real 20-hour kind. Perfect after a night out when omakase money is long gone. Go early, it fills up fast.
Momi Ramen
The Austin import that actually lives up to the hype in Wynwood. Not traditional — it's playful, shareable, and the hama chili is the dish everyone photographs. Great middle ground when half your group isn't ready for full omakase.
Uchi Miami
Omakase out of a truck in Wynwood, and it's so much better than that sounds. Standing counter, about a dozen courses, and a fraction of what the fancy rooms charge. My go-to when I want the experience without the damage.
Myumi
Bal Harbour lunch after shopping, or a long dinner on the patio. Less of a purist omakase and more of a see-and-be-seen Japanese room — the toro tartare and the wagyu are what I always order.
Makoto
More cocktail bar than sushi counter, and that's the point. Come for drinks and Japanese small plates when you want the Design District night out without committing to a two-hour tasting menu. The room is gorgeous.
Kaido Miami
Sunset Harbour go-to when I want good sushi without the reservation stress. Converted garage, plants everywhere, super easy vibe. Great for a casual weeknight dinner or bringing friends who are visiting.
Sushi Garage Miami Beach
The South Beach classic that still delivers. Crispy rice with spicy tuna and the yellowtail sashimi are the order every time. Loud, dressed-up, very SoBe — exactly right when that's the night you want.
Katsuya South Beach
The Gables ramen option, and the one I send people to who think Miami can't do noodles. Bowls are properly rich, the buns are worth ordering, and it's a fraction of an omakase night.
Ichimi Ramen (Coral Gables)
Speakeasy omakase on a timer — you get a set number of courses in about an hour, which sounds gimmicky but is genuinely fun. Best for a date where you want an experience and then somewhere else to go after.
