Books I Love to Read

Closed Book emoji 41 items
I've always been an avid reader. I'll read the back of packages just to be able to read something, lol. I love science fiction. I read every horse book there was when I was a youngster. At 13, I was introduced to my first sci-fi book, Alas Babylon. I was hooked and read as many books about the bomb as I could find. Since my job is to read technical stuff for web design and marketing, my go-to reading is sci-fi. Sitting at a doctor or whatever appointment is fine cuz I have a chance to read!

This is a short collection of Science Fiction books to read. I was a member of the Science Fiction book club many years ago. I bought a lot of hard-backed books from them. It was a great way to keep up with who was writing, before we had Kindle Unlim...

I'm a Kyla Stone fan since I have read most of her books. All of them in this list. These are series-type books, book 1 though 7 of what ever. I still think back to some of the characters and what they did to survive. She's a great read. You may relate to her charact...

Wow! Truly a must-read series! One Second After is the first book in the five-part series. I read this description online, and it got me!

Months before publication, One Second After has already been cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read, a book already being discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a truly realistic look at a weapon and its awesome power to destroy the entire United States, lit...

It is a weapon that the Wall Street Journal warns could shatter America. In the tradition of On the Beach, Fail Safe, and Testament, this book, set in a typical American town, is a dire warning of what might be our future...and our end.

MUST READ! One of my favorite sci-fi series of books. This is so close to what may happen today—a series of post-apocalyptic thrillers by William R. Forstchen.

One Second After: New York Times bestselling author William R. Forstchen brings us a story which can be all too terrifyingly real...a story in which one man struggles to save his family and his small North Carolina town after America loses a war, in one second, a war ...

One Year After: The story begins one year after One Second After ends, two years since nuclear weapons were detonated above the United States and brought America to its knees.

After months of suffering starvation, war, and countless deaths, the survivors of Black Mountain, North Carolina, are beginning to recover technology and supplies they had once taken for granted, like electricity, radio communications, and medication...

The Final Day: Since the detonation of nuclear weapons above the United States more than two years ago, the small town of Black Mountain, North Carolina, has suffered famine, civil war, and countless deaths. Now, after defeating a new, tyrannical federal governmen...

Five Years After and 48 Hours: A Novel were written after this trilogy. You can purchase via the links.

The End of All Things is one of  my favorite series! I hated it when the series ended. Everything that used fuel goes up in flames, killing billions in the first twenty-four hours alone. It follows a family stranded far from each other. It's a real trip for them to travel, including...

Bad guys take over their home where they live, and they have to get it back. This book series is so good. I swear, if he comes out with another in this 6-book series, I will gladly read it :)

One Year After -  I thought the first novel was riveting. Then comes this one. Is it weird to say that I wish I had lived then to be able to survive?

One Year After is the New York Times bestselling follow-up to William R. Forstchen’s smash hit One Second After, the novel cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read.

The story begins one year after One Second After ends, two years since nuclear weapons were detonated above the United States and brought America to its knees. After months of suffering starvation, war, and countless deaths, the survivors of Black Mo...

Last in the line of the One Second After series, comes Five Years After, a near-future thriller where John Matherson must contend with new threats to the fragile civilization that he helped rebuild.

Five years after The Final Day, the Republic of New America has all but collapsed into regional powers, and the world at large is struggling to remain stable as regional conflicts ravage the post-EMP landscape.

After several years attempting to lead a quiet life, John Matherson receives the news that the President is dying from a possible assassination attempt, and is asked to step in to negotiate with what appears to be a new military power hidden in the w...

Starting as a 13-year-old, I read a bunch of apocalypse novels, mostly of the nuclear type. Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank was maybe my first. From the age of 3, I started reading every horse book that had been printed. Bi-weekly trips to the library kept me satiated.

About Alas, Babylon - “An extraordinary real picture of human beings numbed by catastrophe but still driven by the unconquerable determination of living creatures to keep on being alive.” —The New Yorker The classic apocalyptic novel by Pat Frank, fi...

I also list two books by Philip Wylie - Tomorrow! (Beyond Armageddon) and Triumph.

The book Tomorrow! may change your life. It may save it. It is one of the most important—and most shocking—books ever written.

The book Triumph is a nuclear war story involving a USA/USSR spasm war where both sides empty their arsenals into each other with extensive use of dirty bombs to maximize casualties, resulting in the characters in a very deep bomb shelter being the sole survivors in...

48 Hours :A Novel is a nail-biting and prescient thriller about a solar storm with the power to destroy the world's electrical infrastructure.

This book was written before the One Second After series, which actually has four books in the series, but you can purchase all five books in this link.

In 48 hours, the Earth will be hit by a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) from the Sun, a "Carrington Event" that has the power to shut down and possibly destroy the world's electrical infrastructure.

To try and prevent permanent damage, everything goes dark prior to the hit: global communications are shut down; hospital emergency generators are disconnected; the entire internet, media broadcasting, and cell phone systems are turned off.

Will the world's population successfully defend itself in the wake of the CME, or will mass panic lead to the breakdown of society as we know it?
