Half the balance bikes out there are sized for five year olds or built so heavy that a toddler can barely push them. My kid is small for her age and these were the ones she could actually straddle and steer without tipping over every three seconds.

She ate dirt exactly once without knee pads and refused to ride for three days. After that I bought every pad I could find. These are the ones that stayed on and didn't make her overheat.

Once she was gliding with her feet up for long stretches, I knew it was time. The jump to pedals took about 20 minutes of wobbling and then she just got it. These bikes made that moment possible.

Riding in circles on the driveway got old fast. These kept her interested long enough to build real skills without her realizing she was practicing. Sneaky parenting at its finest.

Letting her customize her bike turned it from my thing into her thing. She started asking to ride instead of me bribing her. Every single one of these was her choice and that ownership made all the difference.

We left her first balance bike in the rain for a week and the chain on her pedal bike rusted within a month because I'm lazy. Learned my lesson. These keep everything rideable without much effort.
