Calde de rez is out of this world. Their street tacos are great, too, with almost every meat option you can imagine.

The only sit down restaurant with sushi in town. The noodle bowl is big enough for three meals.

Pizza, pasta, and salads are all delicious here. A good date or family night, higher prices but worth it.

*** Update:  Brewsky's is under new management, and the menu has shifted a little to include some tasty new items on select nights. *** Nice cafe-style restaurant with good burgers and basic dinners. For some reason I cannot figure out, their dinner salads are ad...

The best burrito I've ever had is their surf-n-terf. I wish either their pico or guac skipped the jalapenos, but no one else gets this much flavor in their burritos. Their nachos are huge. Be prepared to stand in line for a while if there are more th...

Willowcreek Store and Cafe is about a half hour from Ontario. Head west to Vale and hang a right on John Day Highway, a few streets past the town's only grocery store.  This community-style diner, with its hearty meals and friendly folks, is well worth the drive, especially when the brisket makes an appearance. Best to call ahead to confirm selections and hours.

Local parks are generally safe during the day, but always be aware of your surroundings. Currently, the splash pad, pool, and skate park are closed due to construction, so travel to the next town, Payette, would be a good option. The rest of Lion's P...

Grocery Stores

Grocery stores are often overlooked, but they become quite important when you live 30 miles away from a major metropolis. Here's what to expect when you live or stay in the Ontaria area.

The local independent grocery store. Red Apple is a fixture in Ontario, and every visit brings out that small town feeling. They have a great meat counter and a good selection of fresh-baked doughnuts (if you get there early in the day). They also ha...

Waremart is definitely the best place for prices and ease of shopping, although it is much smaller than a standard Winco. The bulk foods area is surprisingly complete for such a small store, with good selections of nuts, baking ingredients, and, of c...

Albertsons has been a major employer in the Treasure Valley for decades. Love it or hate it, it's a force to be reckoned with. This store has some great upsides, including the most appealing produce, yummy chicken from the deli ($1 off deals on Monda... *Best pharmacy in town. The pharmacist is knowledgeable and helpful, and they inherited some amazing staff from Rite Aid's closure. You have the option of going inside or using the outside window.

Home Depot is a must-have for most home building and repair projects. This one is conveniently located and most items are easy to find. It's a good idea to call ahead if you have a highly-specific item to purchase, as many items are warehouse-only no...

I know it's their slogan, but staff here really do step up and try to help you find what you are looking for. On my last trip, two of them looked at about a hundred screws to match the one I needed. For personal attention, this is the place to go.
