Tried and Tested Fine Wavy Hair Essentials

So your hair is too straight for the curly products and too curly for straight hair routines? I'm here to help.

For me, it has been years of trying out different products to learn that 95% of them don't work for my fine wavy hair.
My journey isn't over yet — I will keep trying products and learning what works for me. I suggest you do the same, but until you have your own routine nailed down, I thought I'd share mine.

This list is long, please don't be overwhelmed. You don't need ALL of these products.

Because I like to alternate, these are all products that I own and use.

Here's what I have learned about fine wavy hair:
- A lot of curly hair products are too heavy for wavy hair and especially for fine wavy hair, which means the goal is always to DEFINE without WEIGHING DOWN. It's a tough balance to find.
 - Personally, I find my hair gets flat at the root. My hair waves much better when I have lift at the root.
- You'll want to put products on soaking wet hair from heavy (cream, then gel) to light (foams, sprays)

READ ME: My Wavy Hair Routine

Hello! Welcome to your Wavy Hair journey.

My Routine:
1. In the shower, with soaking wet hair, I coat my hair with gel and scrunch it upside down and side to side.
2. I add mousse on top of the gel for an extra layer of definition and frizz control without weighing the hair down. Scrunch Scrunch Scrunch.
3. T-shirt or Microfibre Towel. I place the towel down on something low then place my hair in it and gently wrap it up for 10-15 minutes.
4. I take out my hair from the towel and “plop” meaning I scrunch out the remaining moisture with my towel. Then, I put root clips in to lift my strands from the root.
5. I dry my hair from afar first, not touching it because this adds frizz (pro-tip: try to only touch your hair with a towel or product instead of bare hands to avoid frizz!)

NOTE: Your hair with thrive the most when it's healthy. That means NO HEAT, silk and satin to protect it, and many treatments. Give yourself the strongest foundation to start with!

The ones I own are bigger, but probably too big. This size is better if your hair is like mine. :)

While most people use a light-weight oil, I haven't met an oil “light-weight” enough for me. Instead, I scrunch my crunchy waves with a satin scarf.

This proved to be too heavy for my fine wavy hair as a leave-in on top of already using conditioner, but it works perfectly as *the conditioner*. I use it on soaking wet hair after washing out shampoo.
Marc Anthony Coconut Oil & Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioner

Cream

Curl Cream or Styling Cream — If your hair is wavy you will want to use the lightest possible cream or none at all.

A little goes a long way, and this protein cream ADDS shape and definition while strengthening!
Feather-Light Protein Cream

A MUST HAVE. Use gel to define your curls.

A denman brush is magic. If you have one hair that is wonky or straight, you can curl it with this brush instead of using damaging heat!

Sleeping Bonnet. Mine is less cute than this, but if were to buy a new one I would go with something like this!
Kitsch Satin Lined Jersey Bonnet - Soft Beanie

When putting your wavy hair up, the last thing you want is to pull out the waves and curls you just defined. Using satin scrunchies is the answer. When sleeping, put your hair in a pineapple (look it up).

Use a satin pillowcase to avoid drying out and pulling the hair. Satin lets your hair and face glide without pulling.

I'm bringing these back! They make for much longer prettier ponytails and keep your curls in tact. Some people sleep with them as a “pineapple” (look it up) instead of a scrunchie.
