One of DC’s most underrated kid wins. I love bringing my kids here. Interactive exhibits, mail trucks, and just enough novelty to keep kids engaged without overwhelming them.
Smithsonian National Postal Museum
If you can’t snag White House tour tickets, this is a fantastic alternative. Hands-on, immersive, and surprisingly kid-friendly.
The People’s House: A White House Experience
Way off the museum path, but my daughter loved visiting the planes. it’s full of big wow moments for kids of all ages.
Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center
Supreme Court Building Unexpected hit. My kids actually enjoyed wandering the building, and it sparked real conversations with my 8 year old about how the government works.
Supreme Court of the United States
Stunning building. CHECK. Con: Kids can't really touch much. BUT….the scavenger hunt is what makes it work for kids. Pro tip: Ask for a scavenger hunt brochure or worksheet at the information desk or after the security checkpoint in the Thomas Jefferson Building
Library of Congress
About 20 minutes from downtown and feels like a totally different world. Gorgeous views, easy walking trails, and a great nature break from museums. All in all a great place to let your kids burn off energy.
Great Falls Park
Okay okay, so this is a museum, but we come here at least twice a year and hands down great for younger kids.
National Children's Museum
Not your traditional museum.Interactive, playful, and surprisingly engaging for kids who love words, stories, and language. A fun change of pace from traditional museums.
Planet Word
This is a true local gem, IYKYK. Not accesible by public transportation, you can walk here from the mall. I love the great views of the tidal basin, the playground, and plenty of picnic areas.
