Unique Goodies for the Birthday Treat Bags for older kids. (7 - 12 years old) Make the loot part of the party!

I've hosted quite a few birthday parties for my son, and goodie bags are an important part of the fun!  If they are really good, you can give them out an hour before parents pick up their kids and they have time to play with the stuff.  Birthday Favor bags don't have to be full of junk… they can be really good and full of stuff for the kids to do, things for the kids to trade, and stuff to munch on.  Here is a list of some of the ideas I've had over the years that turned out to be a hit!  Birthday loot for an older girl's or boy's birthday party.  I will add to this list if I remember anything!!

I bought a 96 pack of origami paper and split the paper between the goodie bags.  I photocopied some simple folding instruction sheets to make a few different animals and included it in the bags.  The kids have more than enough paper to play with, and they end up with little toys that they made themselves!  I got the stripes pack and it worked well, so the lines helped a little with folding straight lines, and the animals looked really cool afterwards.  They even traded their creations with each other afterwards!                         #affiliate

I bought these funky gold pens and put one in each bag. My son told me that the other boys took their pens to school as a kind of badge of honor. These ones in particular were so cool because they look ‘rich.’ haha These helped with the origami proje...                             #affiliate

These stickers were so much fun!  I bought a pack of over 300 totally unique meme stickers and split them evenly between the bags.  The kids all had different stickers and showed them to each other, laughed and laughed, and ended up trading them.  I will probably do this now every year.  It was great                                   #affiliate

These particular puzzles are just like Rubics Cubes, just not as expensive!  These puzzle cubes are high quality for the price, and the kids might get a lot of use out of them as they get older. (I hope!)  There were 10 in the pack, so I had a couple left over. Those extras will go in my ‘gift’ closet for when I need something small to give someone in the future. Much like fidget toys, they are good for problem solving and giving twitchy hands somethin... #affiliate

The kids love getting a few little packs of TIC TACS in their loot bags.  It looks like a lot, but there like under 10 candies in each little box, and I was able to put 4 different flavored boxes in each bag.  TicTacs are a nostalgic candy for me, and the kiddos had fun with it.                                #affiliate

Come on, who couldn't have fun with a bunch of fake mustaches?  Especially fun for a girls's party hahaha!  I had bought enough to put 3 unique mustaches in each bag, and the kids had a blast comparing them and trading them.  #affiliate

It is very dry (especially in the winter) where I live, and lip balm is important to have around.  You can include a nice lip balm with a cool flavor in the bags.  The kids will probably trade these too… hopefully before using them.           #affiliate

We are a gaming family.  Board games and card games are very important to us, and I love to give playing cards to the kids.  Sometimes, I will teach them a quick group game as the party is winding down and the parents start showing up.  I also have a couple magic tricks to teach them, and they can practice with their own set of cards. There are so many games these kids could play with cards!  or they can just build a tower of cards instead.                      #affiliate

I would want to put a couple colors in each child's bag, so this idea could get expensive.  But kiddos love squishy things!!  you could even host a kind of Charades game with the kids, where they have to mold something and their team has to guess what it is.  Play-doh is awesome!                              #affiliate

The kids can scatter their very own wildflower seeds in the spring and watch what happens! Maybe in a park or other natural area. This may inspire them to want to go for walks to check on their flowers. :) Just be careful to buy seeds that are approp...            #affiliate

So many kids are playing video games now.  And they love to decorate their backpacks, so this is perfect!  They are bright and fun, and the kids get to wear a little more of their personality on their backpacks if you use it as a bag charm.                                              #affiliate

I just had to add another variety of bag charm here.  These particular ones are plushies and perfect for 8-12 year old boys or girls.  I like emoticon bag charms as a suggestion, but you could shop around and get some that fit the theme of the party.  or the interests of the birthday child.  They usually come in packs of 20+ on Amazon, so each child could get a couple unique charms in their goodie bag!               #affiliate

This particular set has 150 unique joke cards included, so each child can get several cards in their bags.  Then they can tell each other jokes at the party.  Depending on their age, you can find a joke pack more fitting.  I used these with my son and his friends when he was turned 8, and they were perfect!  #affiliate

I have this recipe book, and I copied some simple recipes on some nice cards for the kids.  I put a different one in each bag.  I suspect most of them got tossed in the garbage, but my son's best friend brought me a couple cookies that he made with my recipe many weeks later.  He actually made them!!  I was so touched, and I was happy to have inspired him to try baking.  This may work better for a girl's birthday.                             #affiliate
