Brushes
Your paint brush matters so really take the time and do your research. Start inexpensive at first if you must. Then grow from there.
Oil paint brushes. It is important to keep you brushes separate here. I have some I share accross mediums, but most are for only one media.
Oil Paint Brushes
Watercolor brushes should be soft and supple. They should hold a lot of water and come in a varity of sizes. These brushes will differ greately from - say - your oil brushes.
Watercolor Brushes
Acrylic paint brushes will be a happy medium between your oil brushes and your water color brushes.
Acrylic Brushes
A large brush will help greatly with you first layer wash. Here you still want to keep them separate, but if they get mixed up it should be okay as you are only “washing” your canvas with paint.

Every artist needs a liner brush. They make the final detail layers much more precise and simpler.

Very important to take care of your paint brushes. I've distroyed more than I would like to admit.
Paint Brush Cleaners and Washers
Pink leaves the bristles of your brushes soft and smooth. After washing reshape the brush and store either lying down or bristle up.

Another important tool to have in your art studio or at the ready when painting. They are good for mixing paints, laying down layers, or adding texture.

Cleaning Containers
One can just use a jar but, which is what I do, but keeping your cleaning containers separate for each media is important as well. You will need one for oils, one for acrylic and one for watercolor.
These are nice for acrylic brushes.

Or just use mason jars. The come in multi packs and you can dedicate one for each brush media. With jars and your oil brushes you would dedicate one for cleaning and one or sludging.
