Canvas

Whether you want small or super large, canvas is an important part of an artists' studio. You can get prestreched canvas or by the roll and stretch it yourself. This is nice when you have old paintings that you do not want to waste the frame.

Get creative. Almost anything can be painted on. I have added a frew not quite traditional, but not “out there” substrates. But look in your garage also. Is there an old saw or wood panel or even cardboard. The sky is pretty much the limit.

Creating art on glass or plexiglass is something that I have wanted to try for a while now.

Clear Acrylic Sheets

Canvas boards are great to practice on because they can be pretty inexpensive. They are also great for a heavier body paint as they are sturdier than wrapped canvas.

Now some artists have wrapped their canvas frames with fabric. I have not tried this, but maybe some day I will. I beleive you would probably want an heavier more sturdy fabric.

Why stick to canvas. Go to thrift stores or craft stores and get bird houses, or ornaments. Whatever strikes your fancy can probably be painted on.
