As someone born and raised in the North Island of New Zealand, I’ve spent a good chunk of my life exploring its beautiful corners — from windswept coastlines to lush native bush and everything in between. Growing up here, you quickly learn where to find the best views, the quietest swimming spots, and the most memorable road trip stops. But the beauty of this place is that there’s always something new to discover, no matter how long you’ve called it home. Even with all the places I’ve visited, there are still a few gems I haven’t managed to tick off yet — and that’s part of the magic. Putting together this list has not only been a chance to share my personal favorites, but also a little nudge for me to keep exploring too. Maybe it’ll inspire you the same way it’s inspired me — to pack up the car, hit the road, and see what hidden treasures you can find. As someone born and raised in the North Island of New Zealand, I know all the best spots for your next adventure! There are some I haven't managed to tick off yet myself so may this be my inspiration also. From scenic lookouts and hideaway spots to classic tourist destinations, this list features all the best bits (to my knowledge) of the North.
