What to do in and around Glenelg
The perfect spot for a sunset stroll. The parts of the boardwalk I did were well maintained and mostly accessible and not too steep.
Glenelg to Seacliff Coastal Walk
Relax in the sun, explore the nearby sculptures or get out your camera (first two pictures are mine).
Glenelg Jetty | Adelaide, South Australia
The tram is a great way to relax and venture beyond the coast. Get off at Rundle Mall for shopping or North terrace to explore the parks and museums.
Glenelg-City Tram
Eat
From great takeaways to the lovely dinners, these were my favourite food finds.
Fabulous pasties and pies and great sweet pastries. This bakery always had a queue of people going through it, so I had to try it for myself. Definitely worth a visit. Or two.
Orange Spot Bakery
Best for curries. The food is tasty and excellent value. I admit I wouldn’t have given it a second look if it wasn’t for the local recommendation. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food.
North Indian Cuisine - Glenelg - Indian
The salmon was delicious.
Coast Restaurant | Glenelg
I can’t go to the beach and not have fish and chips. This was only traditional Aussie-style fish and chip shop we could find on the main strip.
The fisherman’s basket is excellent value, but if you opt for grilled fish you may want to add an extra pi...
BAY FISH SHOP | Glenelg
Choose your favourite frozen yoghurt and topping and pay by the weight of the container. I really loved the variety of toppings.
Yo-Chi
The perfect spot to grab a coffee and escape if it happens to rain. I was drenched, the staff were lovely, and the vanilla slice was devine.
Europa at the bay
Great views and accessible from the boardwalk or grab one of the nearby parking spots.
Broadway Kiosk
Stay
Where to stay in Glenelg
Right by the beach but away from the crowds. The rooms are spacious and clean. They are a little dated, but let’s call that character.

Bring
The little extras to bring with you that make the difference between a good trip to Glenelg and a great one.
Adelaide may be in the middle of a drought, but that didn’t stop me getting drenched during the 15 mins it rained during my trip.
Raincoat | Kathmandu AU
Whether you’re hitting the beach in summer or the hotel pool in winter, bring your bathers. These are my favourites. Funky prints, reversible, and you can buy the bikini top and bottom in different sizes for the perfect fit.
Swimsuit | Baiia
Take your own pillow for a great nights sleep. The sleepkeeper is water resistant to protect your pillow and is designed to work with your carryon so you can have it with you on the flight.
