Products to Pack to Minimise Your Environmental Impact

Minimise the use of plastic and disposal products by taking environmental friendly alternatives with you when you travel. Some of these recommendations contain affiliate links, from which I may receive a small commission if you choose to purchase.

Bring an empty water bottle through customs and then use the water stations to fill it to reduce the use of plastic bottles.  This bottle has a straw so you don't need to remove the lid to drink, minimising the risk of spills due to unexpected turbulence during your flight.

A bamboo toothbrush is a more sustainable choice than one made from plastic.  I like that this one comes in a cardboard box rather than plastic.

Cookie tins make great sustainable lunch boxes and allow you to avoid plastic containers and disposable zip-lock bags.  Pack your own or grab a full one if you want to avoid paying for food on the plane.

Bring your own shopping bag so you don't need to purchase one at your destination or accept plastic shopping bags.  While the best bags are the ones that you already own, I like that these bags are made from up-cycled rice sacks.

This cool adaptor will allow you to convert between any of US, UK, AUS/NZ, and EU plugs.  Have a universal adaptor is a great choice if you travel frequently to different destinations.   Combine it with a powerboard that you use at home if you need more to plug in more than one device at a time.

I seem to live with my charger - whether its because I have forgotten to charge my phone or because I have been playing games and using the GPS to navigate.  I love that this one is made from mostly recycled plastic.

Bring reusable cutlery with you for your flight and travel.  Rather than taking your regular cutlery, these brightly coloured ones are harder to misplace, and you don't ruin your regular set if you do lose on.  I still have a similar set from when I was a kid (and thats a long time ago). Despite multiple camping trips and both me and my kids using them, they are still in excellent condition.

So many tools, so little space. While you can't pack a Swiss Army knife in your carry on, if you are checking luggage it is worth including one.  Mine has sliced bagels and cheese, opened bottles of wine, removed splinters and more! Having to purchase a separate product for each of these jobs when needed would have resulted in a lot more waste or heavier return luggage.

My go-to for stain removal, cut off a slice for washing your clothes in the hotel basin, or dissolve in water for the laundrette.  It's cheaper and more environmentally friendly than buying detergent at your destination - plus it is biodegradable.  Plus, as the soap comes in a solid bar rather than in liquid form, it is easy to take in your carry-on.
