One of the most prolific authors in our lifetimes, Stephen King is a blockbuster writer across multiple genres including sci-fi, horror, and drama. I'll admit I'm not a fan of horror so I haven't read many of his books. I've seen more of his movies ...

On Screen Now or Coming Soon!
I haven't read this novel, but the previews for the movie adaptation are hitting now. This looks like an intriguing entry into the distopian future sub-genre of sci-fi. If you're a fan of The Walking Dead, The Running Man, and other distopians, this might be for you.
The Long Walk by Stephen King
This definitely reminds me of The Hunger Games. Definitely another distopian future which I usually like watching, but I almost want to put this in the horror section. This is one of 2 Stephen King movies featuring Mark Hamill debuting this year. I watched the trailer MULTIPLE times before I realized that was Mark Hamill!
The Long Walk (2025) Official Trailer - Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson
This one isn't making it to the big screen, but it has been adapted into a series for MGM+.
The Institute: A Novel by Stephen King
I've seen this trailer pop up on YouTube a couple times. I'm officially intrigued. It kind of reminds me of a darker version of the Marvel universe.
The Institute
A novel so good they've made it into a movie twice now. Another tale of a distopian future caused by greed.
The Running Man|Paperback
The movie trailers are intriguing me so I won't read this until after I've seen the movie.
The Life of Chuck|Hardcover
Starring Tom Hiddleston, Karen Gillian, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mark Hamill among others. You can buy or rent it now.
The Life of Chuck
Science Fiction
This was so campy! It definitely didn't age well, but I am interested in seeing what the new version coming out late in 2025 will be like.
The Running Man
Another novel by Stephen King adapted for the screen multiple times. I remember the first movie with fondness and enjoyed the spinoff/sequel TV series.
Firestarter: A Novel by Stephen King, Paperback
This played ALL THE TIME on basic cable when I was a tween so I saw it many times. It was probably one of the gateways into sci-fi for me. Loved Drew Barrymore in this movie!
Firestarter (1984) [DVD]
Horror
I'll be honest. Never seen the full movie nor read the book, but it's a classic of American movie history at this point. Not to mention a classic horror novel.
The Shining|Paperback
It's a Nope for me as I'm not a horror fan at all, but if you're a fan of the horror genre, I'm sure you've read the book and watched every on screen adaptation. It's a classic. As for me, I'll just be over here backing away slowly.
It: A Novel|Paperback
This is the original made for TV mini-series adaptation from 1990 when I was in high school. The great Tim Curry played Pennywise. My fellow Gen X's will recognize Richard (John Boy) Thomas, Harry Anderson (Night Court), John Ritter (Threes Company), and many more in the A list cast.
Stephen King's It [1990] DVD
This is the more recent 2018 adaption for the big screen. This version was also a box office success and had a great viral marketing campaign with red balloons appearing near sewer grates all over.
It Single-edition Stephen King 2018
Another creepy horror novel that I just won't be reading. Not my cup of tea, but I can definitely see the appeal if you love to be scared.
Pet Sematary: A Novel|Paperback
This is another tale from Stephen King that has been adapted to the screen more than once. Both movies did well at the box office. This DVD collection offers both the 1989 and 2019 versions.
Pet Sematary 2019/1989 (2 Movie Collection)
I wasn't even born yet when this was originally published. It came out just a month before I was born. I was only 2 the first time it was adapted to the big screen.
Carrie|Paperback
I was only 2 when this movie came out and have never seen it despite the fact that when I was a tween and teen it was still popular on cable television.
Carrie (1976)
This is a second more recent adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie. I have to admit, Sissy Spacek will always be Carrie to me, but this is a good adaptation as well. The special effects have come a long way in 30 years.
Carrie (2013)
Drama
I haven't read the book, but I loved the movie. Frankly, if you put Morgan Freeman in a movie, I'll watch it.
Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption|Paperback
I love just about everything Morgan Freeman has been in. I'm also a sucker for historical dramas. This movie was so well done and is a classic everyone should see at this point.
The Shawshank Redemption
This novel doesn't seem as far fetched as it did when I was younger with all the craziness that the internet forments these days.
Misery: A Novel|Paperback
One of Kathy Bates' most iconic roles. I just loved this movie, but I don't think I could manage to read the book.
