From "Bleached to Hell" to Healthy: My 6-Year Hair Rehab
If you’ve ever bleached your hair to the point of no return—we’re talking short, severely damaged, splitting-at-the-ends disaster—I feel your pain. I was that girl. It took me 6 years of serious, dedicated hair care to normalize my hair and get it healthy again.
This list is my brutally honest, tried-and-true collection of products that actually pulled my hair back from the brink.
My biggest secret? I rotate my routine every 5 to 6 months. The moment I feel my hair getting "used to" a treatment and the progress stalls, I switch it up.
Everything on this list is a heavy-hitter in my rotation that genuinely works. No fluff, just results.
If you are at that highest level of damage right now, this list is your roadmap back to life.
Phase 1: The Emergency Room (Olaplex)
If your hair is currently snapping, gummy, or "straw-like," start with Olaplex. The Routine: Use No. 0 and No. 3 together as your weekly bond-builder. Use the Rich Hydration Mask to plump the strands back up, and never style without No. 6 and No. 7.
The Result: This is the only technology that actually "puts the hair back together." Once you see your hair coming back to life and actually starting to grow again, you can transition to Phase 2.
Phase 2: The Normalization (Elvive)
Once the "emergency" is over, I moved into my Elvive cycles.
Use the Dream Lengths line to save those precious new inches from splitting.
Rotate in the Hyaluron Plump for a "silk-hair" reset when things feel heavy.
Use the Glycolic Gloss as a "top-coat" for that expensive salon shine.
The Golden Rule: Daily Oil is Mandatory
Think of hair oil like the hydration cream you put on your face every single day. You wouldn't skip moisturizer for your skin, so don't skip it for your ends!
OGX Coconut or Argan Oil are my daily staples for hydration and strength.
Moroccanoil is my luxury choice for elasticity.
Olaplex No. 7 is my shield against heat.
My Top Tips for Recovery:
The 6-Month Switch: I change my entire routine every 5–6 months. When I feel like my hair is "used to" a product and it stops working, I rotate to a different line on this list to keep the progress moving.
Stop the Bleach: My biggest advice? Stop bleaching. Or at the very least, give your hair a long, long pause. Your hair cannot heal if you are constantly killing it.
The "Safe" Return: Once your hair is normalized and healthy again (which took me years!), don't go back to full-head bleach. Switch to lower-level techniques like Balayage or highlights that don't touch your roots or fry every single strand.
This journey is a marathon, not a sprint—but if I could save my hair from the brink, you can too.
