Amazon’s books are so cheap because they can operate at a loss, undercutting authors, and book buyers. Amongst other issues, Amazon has been known to be union-busting, treat their employees poorly, and of course, do not pay taxes. As of February 26, 2025, Amazon’s U.S. Kindle Store has now included a disclaimer: “By placing the order, you’re purchasing a license to the content.” So you no longer own the ebooks you purchase. If that’s not a reason, I don’t know what is. Let's stop supporting large corporations and shift our spending back into our local communities and small businesses that deserve our hard earned money.
